Bluebridge are by far the cheapest (and friendlier staff/crew), they have a discount structure in place for SNZ vehicles, just you have to phone to book as you cant do it online to get the discount (from memory it is 15-20%), anyway heres a price comparison, When we moved back to Taranaki from Marlborough it cost me $160 for my tow car and $160 for the trailer (didnt matter what was on the trailer), drove up to taranaki , i then had to Fly back to Blenheim as i still had a weeks work to complete, so flew back via wellington and caught a connecting flight to Blenheim, and after all that i was still $50 better off than going one way by the interislander. So that is the ferry crossing and the flight back, $50 cheaper than one way on the government boats

We recently recieved an e-mail about discounted travel. Here is an extract from it including terms and conditions and a contact. Hope this is of some help. Doesn't hurt to ring the guy and ask.
International Motorsport was recently appointed as an official booking agent for Motorsport related ferry crossings, and we can offer motorsport competitors and supporters significantly cheaper ferry crossings. Typical savings for competitors are $150 off PER CROSSING for a car and trailer, and even greater savings for truck/trailer combos. And discount rates for passengers.
For crossing prices or to make a booking please contact Tony Hirst on 027 726 7779 or email tony@internationalmotorsport.co.nz
Terms and Conditions: Carriage on any Interislander sailing using the International Motorsport discount 1. is for the exclusive use of motorsport competitors for competition purposes only. This includes Circuit Racing, Rallying, Motocross, Motorcycle Racing, Speedway, Stockcars, Kartsport, Off Road Racing, Classic Car Concours, Powerboat Racing, and on occasion, other approved forms of engine powered competition vehicles. Any competitor found to be abusing the discount by way of ferry crossings outside 2. of competition events will be removed from the International Motorsport offer immediately. Payment for crossings must be made at check in one hour in advance of each 3. crossing, at the Interislander Commercial Vehicle Check In Hut. Bookings must be made at least 48 hours in advance of a crossing.4. Carriage of commercial vehicles will be in accordance with the General. Conditions 5. Conditions of Carriage for Interislander dated July 2003, as amended by this Agreement, and subject to any subsequent additions or amendments. A copy may be obtained on request or from interislanderfreight.co.nz

I was bringing a truck up from CCH to jaffaland and missed the Interislander by about five minutes so went across to Strait shipping, now Bluebridge, to see if they could help. Sure, they said, drive on now so youre first off then go up to the lounge and theyll give you some dinner. Costs? Interislander $540 one way, Strait $160 with a $40 cashback if I dont want to return. The glider boys always use them because of the huge fees the other charges them for their long trailers.

Last seasons fares thru Wellington Speedway on Interislander were
Off Peak Adult $38 Child $ 23 Car or van up to 5.5 metres $120 Trailer up to 5.5 metres $120 Trucks up to 3.5 ton $225
Peak times 16Dec - 28Dec & 9Apr - 12Apr Adult $45 Child $ 23 Car or van up to 5.5 metres $138 Trailer up to 5.5 metres $138 Trucks up to 3.5 ton $225
I expect it will be about the same again this season. They are about 10-20% cheaper than their regular supersaver fares but you can still get these prices even if the Cheapies have sold out and there is only the expensive fares left.

From experience the supersaver fares are allways sold out, and the best fares are when you can't make the departure time. It pays to shop around as independant booking agencies usually have first dibs on the cheap fares, and sometimes the overbuy them and are desperate to sell them.

wellington speedway were still negotiating their deals when i last contacted them 2 weeks ago. even if they had had them sorted, they were not to start untill the end of oct. unfortunayely that meant i had to pay full price and it wasnt pretty. also the interislander were cheaper compared to bluebridge but wasnt by much. also beware anyone using a truck (with load) over 3500kg gvm will have to have certified tie down points on the truck. that one caught me out,( another cost that wasnt pretty ) and applies to both bluebridge and interislander. the annoying thing is that just about everything else is exempt.
