Hi all - its probably too early for a thread like this, but i'm interested regardless on a feel for how the South island stockcar class has grown.
First year of the south island title in Blenheim there were 24 cars and entrants, with a real good turnout from the class.
Next year in SI title Greymouth there were 36 cars, and qualifying heats.
last year in CHCH they had a few (sorry didn;t attend so a bit lite on detail) but CHCH and Nelson emerged with the numbers to race on there own.
This year CHCH has set the precendent with 25 stockcars at the opening meeting.
Riverside in INvercargill had 8 cars at there opening meeting, with probably half and half from Dunedin and INvergiggle?
Nelson have there own website, and stackloads on the books. Can anyone help with the numbers for this season?
Blenheim - well, not much news from there, can anyone help with there numbers?
Greymouth hope to have 15-16 local cars at the first meeting, with another half a dozen in sheds locally.
I guess I'm starting to wonder - are we getting close to 100 stockcars in the south island?

From what I hear their must be at least a dozen or so cars parked up or being made ready to race in Christchurch , 25 was a good turn out first up a very big well done to all that made it
Now just got to hope ?? one meeting either here or the coast is rained off as we can't race in both this Saturday

We need it too stay fine, as I understant the canterbury champs are closed to visitors? I'm happy ot be corrected on that one. IN my experiance in the north island, the superstocks originally struggled as some moved down to stockcars, but in the main they have experianced a resugance, as people have moved back to them in the north in recent seasons. The south island superstocks have to go through that period of hurt, but will bounce back, as some drivers look for more speed, or less contact etc. HB suffered for ahwile - and are now back to almost 20 superstocks. At the end of the 90s when stockcars were getting strongly established Palmy struggled with superstocks - now they are back to 20 plus. Auckland struggled up to recently - I understand they are looking at high teens.Likewise Huntly - there class is on the up there. Rotorua has been a powerhouse for a number of years, and continues to stregthen. Anyway, back to the stockcars - what are the projections for down souths numbers this year, and still awaiting feedback on Blenheim and Nelson numbers for this season. thanks for the responses so far team.

Nelson has 16 cars what I would call ''most meeting regulars'' -------------7 part time racers as budgets and work commitments allow -------------unfortunately 3 cars for sale (hope to stay local) and another 4 chassis in the build stage.

Riverside had 10 cars at the first meeting with 5 of those coming from Dunedin. thanks for coming guys, it was much appreciated. we currently have 6 cars going, 4 nearly there and 3 that I know of in the building stage. also like everywhere else there is a lot of interest from drivers from other grades and new people as well. Cheers, Cliff.

And excitingly - who are the 4 chassis in the build stage?!?!? thanks for the update Godfather. I'll have to talley up these figures once we get some feedback from Blenheim. Hellooooo anyone from Blenheim out there?? Regardless, the numbers are looking very positive for a class thats only a few years old in the south.

Actually I mis-calculated
In the build stage are -
Ryan Hitchc0ck Shane Harwood Nick Karsten Wayne Martin (sort-of ;D) Ron McPhail
Add to that - John Byrman also has a second car being prepared by Matt Boulton

Shane has a new Rees chassis sitting in the shed, and it is unlikely it will see much,if any, track time this year.
Shane is committed to the superstock this season and wants to have a dig at the big Stockcar titles when they are down this way next season.
As to the future of the Superstock ?? That is a question that can only be answered by him.
