Transfering from the HB weather / results tread which ended up talking about this instead... macgor.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=12565&page=3With so many SSaloons transfering to Huntly, do we know of any of the rumoured off season saloon drivers changing? Also could this be why there is a sudden interest in the stockcar class at BP with a gold cup and a 3 meet series all before Xmas?

The sport as a whole certainly hasn't grown in the last decade as this sort of thing has become more common, only certain tracks (and on some occasions only in certain classes), and not always on a permanent basis.
Mind you, Baypark's super Super Saloon fields of the past have always been bolstered by out-of-towners such as Kevin Fillingham, Bruce Beaumont, Geoff Fletcher etc. As I mentioned in the other thread, we saw an exodus from Dunedin to Cromwell in the same class a number of years ago, and while this hurts one track and boosts another, I don't believe it does the sport any favours in the long term, either way. I'd prefer to see promotions working together and sharing what they had for the good of the sport.......now I'm off to catch that pig that just flew past my window........

bay park exodus what alot of old bull feathers the one or two supers they may have lost probly because they didnt get there way ,will be replaced by the the return of two or three super quick old hands in new machinery so really the exodus seems to be in a postive gain not a negative loss

Neither of the BP websites have competitor lists and in past seasons some of the big boys don't come out to play this early in the season. Therefore until then we are left to speculate and sniff for what we can hear around the place. So who? would you like to share?

Any overall number gain is still a loss when you've lost others for whatever reason in my book, and with Dean Waddell reportedly having a year off the 3 or 4 mentioned (McIntryre, Emerson, Harding and Moore in different places, although maybe not all headed for Huntly) will be quite a hole to fill, whoever may be returning from the past......

A list of competitors can be seen on the club website under club points www.bopspeedway.co.nz/ClubPointsSuperSaloons.htmlnot sure how accurate it is though??

One would expect the reason for registering to Huntly is because those competitors are keen to get as many laps as possible at the track that is too host the NZ title later this season?

Something to do with drivers wanting to support the SSCAR series, not being welcome to register at Baypark I believe Obby. I'd have thought there'd be room for both, but..........

Many promotors need to pull their heads in and work with the classes rather than trying to dictate to them.
Speedway NZ also needs to get some nuts and reign in some of these promotors also..... But, hey, forgot for a minute, they are all one and the same....................

Must admit I'm surprised to see only one planned feature meeting for the supers at Baypark this season , perhaps a reflection of the expected strength of numbers expected .
Just as surprising is that only the NZ Champs meeting is featuring the Saloons . Ditto for the Sprinters with the Nth Island Champs. ...and four feature Stockcar meetings from a promoter widely touted as disliking that class .
I guess there is hope in the five meetings tagged 'TBA'.
I suppose the only way to know is take a look at opening night and see what shows . any volunteers?.
Might have to put my own hand up and wander over for a look see . I really do hope it's not all as bad as it seems at the moment .

Lets not forget where Shane got his NZ title - Cromwell.. These guys are top notch drivers, with top notch crews and top notch setups... pretty sure the last thing on there minds when signing over was that the NZ tittle is being run there, (maybe a bonus). Japsuper has hit the nail on the head i think, although im pretty dam sure WK will not be losing any sleep over there departures as this is not the first time it has happened, and more than likely won't be the last....

Interesting read in Ray Stewart's recent update - that SNZ were looking at stopping all the class organised series like the DHL, Super Saloons in the NI etc.
now if you as a promoter was looking to lose several of your top competitors in a glamour class to another track due the drivers desire to attend a series, and you just happened to be a SNZ director as well, would you have influence that caused such comments and concerns on Rays site
wandering minds - and could now write a novel on the rights/ wrongs of all of this from many angles

If you don't travel around the country visiting other tracks in your class then you can't expect the class to grow and ultimately it makes the smaller clubs lose out even more. The board and promoters should be listening to its competitors before they loss them for good. The board should be concentrating on getting the basic's of their jobs done right and efficiently rather than adding to their workload.

Maybe the drivers are going to other tracks to get laps on tracks that are not as wide as Bay Park. i would think, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, that if you race most of your season at the wider Bay Park and struggle to get clearances to go to race at other tracks, when you do get to go to bigger meetings you are faced with a more narrow track and more cars trying to use it. Just my thoughts.
