First big National Saloon Championship of the year this weekend at Te Marua - entry list should now be up on www.wellingtonspeedway.co.nz or here it is below: 1nz Brent McClymont 4s Ash Cook 5c Walter Whittleston 7w John McGrath 7s Peter Ingram 9c Rhonda Katene - Hill 9w Mike Stapelton 10w Todd Moffatt 12w Nigel Grenside 13r Murray Guy 14b George Hildred 16m Steve Muir 16s Thomas Korff 17w Stu Cunningham 24w Gary Marshall 29b Steve Martin 42w Alan Jacob 43h Aaron Tonks 45m Paul Cressy 48a Philip Towgood 59a Bryan Skelton 61a Roy Walker 69m Jeff Barron 69k Mike Wilson 74a Scott Lansdowne 75m Michelle Wymer 78s Chris Betts 82m Paul Managh 91w Mark McIntyre 97a Robin Thomas Quality field with a lot of top drivers, good Wellington representatives, and a South Island contingent race fresh from the South Island DHL Series - should be a top meeting!!! Two rain offs in a row now for Te Marua - so we MUST be up for third time lucky and some good weather this coming Saturday So who will take it out??? Hard choice to make with the current and the last 1NZ Brent McLymont and Phil Towgood (also the new SI DHL champ) - 43H Aaron Tonks who was very impressive down south, 74A Scott Lansdowne also fast and consistent, 75M Michelle Wymer and the rest of the Barron's team - all up against local hero's and Te Marua specialists 10W Todd "Moff" Moffat, 42W Alan "Jake" Jacob and 24W Gary Marshall - it's going to be an awesome nights racing!! See you there! Chris Hadley WSS Vice President

Good point - Ramjam e-mailed me the original list obviously!!
Shame then as it would have been good to see the "Tarantula Racing" team up here!!
However - its a top field - going to be a good battle for the Grand Prix!
OK - I'll put my neck out first and pick:
10W First 1NZ Second 48A Third
But it could be any of at least 10+ drivers on the top step of the podium!

anyone know why Walter and Rhonda arent going up Cheers Ramjam tells me they were entered but the entry was withdrawn around midday - haven't managed to fix damage from the DHL in time to make the trip. 5C did do a big wall ride in the DHL final at Blenheim... must just have been too much to fix in time so they flagged it away. At least they advised ahead of time instead of just being no shows, so thanks for that. A little bird tells me there might be a couple of high profile last minute entries to bring the numbers back up to 30 cars... but my lips are sealed and I can say no more at this stage

Good to see the Stratford cars in there. My picks: 1st 42w Alan Jacobs 2nd 48a Phil Towgood 3rd 4s Ash Cook Good call - Ash has won the Wellington saloon Champs a few times from memory, and with that ex 1NZ Cardwell machine he will have to be well in the reckoning. I'm pretty certain one of 10W, 24W, or 42W will be somewhere on the podium though - or maybe even a clean sweep!

I know we are supossed to be unbiased... BUT
I would be very surprised to see the podium without Todd Moffat on it, infact now that I think about it if Toddy isn't standing on the podium, ya prob wouldn't be able to see him at all ;D ;D ;D
1nz, 4s, 10w, 13r, 24w, 42w, 43h, 48a, 75m should all make the top 3
Just a note as an aside: Great to see big names, the likes of Placemakers and Samsung joining our own great local sponsors at Te Marua.

Where are the following cars: 77k ross creswell 17r tony heuvel 271m maurice cowling 46a nigel ross 3nz terry corrin - Rossco is being the 'perfect husband' and family member (not altogether willingly) and with his family, hosting a wider family Xmas get-together.
- Maurice Cowling doesn't actually have a car, despite having a significant investment in a few!
- Terry Corin has sold his car (I think?).
Steve Williams 21h will have to be either dead, on a golf course, or no confirmed car, NOT to attend. Possibly the later. Winning will firstly be about surviving the qualifying heats, the quality of the track prep, quality of the racing and refereeing, and the water truck driver.

Hope the rain holds out for you all down there. I think you Wellington drivers are going to have a lesson in saloon cars this weekwnd. There is at least 4 cars coming down that will be half a second a lap or faster than any local car. When the word CHAMPIONSHIP is added the cream is always ontop. Good luck to all and hope the Red caps dont stuff this one up. Lunchbox 808R PS Look out for the dark horse, hes the one that also has the most 'kms to get there.

Big call Lunchbox! Can't think of ANY saloon in NZ that could put half a second a lap on 10W or 42W at their home track - just not going to happen! Don't forget Moff was 2NZ Super in the very same car, and Jake has won a couple of DHL series against the best around - so your not talking "hicks from the sticks" you know

Another unfortunate scratching this morning - 97A Robin Thomas has had to pull out - again, hasn't had time to fix up the aftermath of the South DHL series... But with the rumored 2-3 extra entries we're still on track for 30 cars. Ramjam also tells me that in deference to the title sponsors of the event we won't be having the usual "Blue" and "Red" groups - they will be the "Samsung LCD" group and the "Samsung Plasma" group! Weather is forecast to improve for the end of the week - so fingers crossed for a great day - we must be third time lucky after two consecutive rained out weekends
