Why is it that when the weather plays funny buggers with tracks up and down the country and rains out certain events (World 240's, Stockcar Teams, provincial championships), that people instantly BLAME the CLUB hosting it and their systems?
I mean, it is something that seems to be happening a lot this year cos the weather plain sucks, but its something that can't be controlled, and then the Club has to race around organising refunds/replacement tickets/ rain out passes and they have to do so immediately... a decision like that isn't made lightly and I don't think they should all be harangued for it!
Go the Speedway Clubs of New Zealand... I think you do a superb job of organising events!!!

Maybe it seems it maybe a backlash of overall costs has a whole, acc levies going up, Fuel prices floating around,
Overall costs of living go up then An E.T.S scam ,taxing the air kicking in july ,jobs being like gold ETC People will moan about many things,
the weather plays up at the same time .
Combination of a few things in this P.C day & age.

Being a Club member at Rotorua and Kihikihi I choose Kihikihi today as knew there would be good crowd support at Rotorua so all I was saying that it was a shame there were no Rainpasses but hey thats Speedway. The only loser today would have been Kihikihi as only 7 Superstock could make it, but hey they seen the further improvement to track
As the song goes
Blame it on the Rain.

I wasn't really in touch yesterday, but saying there were no rain passes and there was a free meet was fine, but if today didn't go ahead then wouldn't have vegas speedway made a killing from not holding a meet.
I thort if a meet was postponed with in the first 3 - 5 races then a rain out pass should be issued.
Did they run 6 races b4 calling it?
Not an issue now as they run today.

Quite strange really, as i am also a season pass member,
Rain was packing in a few times car park was getting full people were still going through the gates,
Pitstop challenge was going on around 5.30 approx and i looked up & still people were going through the car park & gates,
So if i was coming to park in the car park and looked at the rain i would have said "is it worth my 25 bucks" to be rained off?

Goes to show the dedication and support people are willing to put into these clubs. Now if only some of the clubs would return the favour (in this case with rain passes etc..)

I have been caught out with the weather down here in Wellington with the Teams champs but I didn't go and make remarks about the Wellington people.. I think they did well to rally as they did at that time of the year. So now I'm sure Rotorua will know for next time.. whenever they are due to hold a championship next that they would plan ahead for the eventuality of rain.

Yeah I get that... I was just saying that Teams Champs was a perfect example in Wellington at the end of last year of how a club could rally well and that it was thought out not just a spur of the moment thing
And yay for my [glow=red,2,300]100th[/glow] post!!!!!!

Usually a club has a 4-6 race programme before a meeting can be called. For a meet to be called, prior to a race being held, and a free meet the following day announced seems strange to me.
As I said in another thread, what would happen if today did not run? Lots of bucks for vegas and still a meeting to run at sum stage. Would they charge again. I think so.
Usually Rotorua are top notch. For this meet I think they Lacked.
Sonja, what would have happened if today wasn't possible to run. What would rotoruas' stance be?

I recall this happenning a few years ago with the NZ Minisprint Champs at Paradise Valley - must have been 06/07 - and the same policy applied then as it did today.
This is nothing new to Rotorua and appears to have been the policy for a while now.

Is it a lack of communication that's an issue here?
No-one seems to know what the policy was, what the rain passes situation was, when/where/why/how, yada yada yada.
There will always be some peeved people who take out the frustration of the rain on a club hosting an event, but most of us understand that's a possibility with the sport. However, would people (on the whole) been more comfortable if they had actually known what was going on given the rain situation and the rescheduling?

Why does a track make more money if there's a rain out? I thought they would be out of pocket no hotdog and drink sales etc and there staff will still get paid some wages as they would obvously be there ready to go well before the start time of the meeting preparing things etc. And as for the earlier post about still taking gates sales until it was called off. Of course they would! anyone going in can look at the sky or weather forecast and make there own mind up if it's worth the risk of getting wet or not. People aren't thick they know full well if they can make it there the next day or not if it does get called off before they hand over there hard earned cash. I think tracks get a hard time weather is not in there control!
