I stand corected, just always thought it was called "nationals" as nz or New Zealand, not allowed in the title.
tank11 u would be correct i've been gong WP my whole 22yrs of existance and as a WP regular from my point of view it has always been known as 'The Team Nationals'

It did start off being called the teams nationals and in most minds it still is. SNZ have rules around meetings being titled NZ & National and the meeting ran foul of those rules so officially it's the Auckland Superstock Teams Champs

Yep Gordon, I went on the web site and found it on the calender while checking the NI's.
When I originally came up with the format for the 'Stockcar Teams Nationals' in 1988, we were unable to use NZ or New Zealand in the title according to the Speedway rules at the time. Over the years the title has remained until Superstocks was added. Can't believe that it's been going for 25 years when it started off with just eight teams. That first season the Stratford Scrappers took the title - Keith Simpson the captain.
I see the calendar is calling it the Auckland Superstock Teams Champs but now the front page promo is back to calling it the Teams Nationals so perhaps it's gone full circle and I can go back to being confused.
Maybe Kevin free, Barry hunter, Eddie Hawkins, Stan hickey?
quote me if i,m wrong but i think barry hunter was captain of the north island team the last time they won it ;D
Barry Hunter, Kevin Free, Bryce Penn and Murray Long - with no reserve car or driver.

As far as I can remember it was always called the sponsors name then teams nationals like the 1st season it ran it was 1988 RED SEAL AUTO'S TEAMS NATIONALS and so on.
The Promoter that season was more interested in how RB rolled his Modified than talk about the four teams that were in the semies on the radio the next day
the four teams were Auckland, Waikato, Stratford and Wanganui and the final was Waikato Vs Stratford in a 12 lap race and going into the last 4 laps Waikato were winning but then it all went wrong for them and Stratford took the win.
The ASSCC was the promotor and Terri Butler the Track Manager/Clerk of the Course who also undertook radio interviews, etc. Her husband Chris was a Modified Sportsman competitor.
Auckland Allstars Baypark Busters Manawatu Mustangs Palmerston North Panthers Nelson Tigers Hawke Bay Hawkeyes Wellington Wildcats Waikato Wanderers (will they have a team?)
Out from Palmy;
British Lions Rotorua Rebels (I'll pick as the 9th team if that's the format selected, or maybe the 8th team if Waikato can't get a team together) Wanganui Warriors Stratford Scrappers Christchurch Glen Eagles

From what was said at our team meeting yesterday there will be 8 teams invited. I'd guess Barry b will be pretty close. Should be something released by the promotion team late this week.
8 teams is gr8 and wif 8 teams would they be doing original rules of first across the line? this would mean more aciton for the crowd as i believe points makes an affect on hitting as more cars want 2 finsh 2 get points... p.s. 12 teams would b awesome...

You still have to have points if teams have two races each. First across the line would only work if you split the 8 teams into 4 races, with the 4 winners becoming the semi-finalists. But as soon as you introduce a second race you open yourself to a number of teams winning one and losing one, creating a tie.

yes i do realise that barry but waikaraka used to always do first across the line and it work fine.. if memory serves me right it was 2 groups of 4 teams that each races 3 times on first night which then would give you the top 2 from each group.. my other idea would be that they do a knockout style comp.. you win you carry on, lose and you go into a plate comp and could finsh as high as 5th.
