Some very valid points above, agree totally. Weather forecast today is worse than yesterday's and I know we can't look into a crystal ball, but being a long weekend and a competing last night/tonight I hope they make a call early on today so I can make other plans for the rest of the weekend. I'm sure many of you are thinking the same.....

Would it be such an inconvenience to try run at lunchtime? Nothing wrong with a daytime meeting and rain meant to come later on.....

If you read the hourly rainfall forecast on met service you could assume racing is unlikely as showers are due from 2-8pm. However the forecast in the manawatu can never be relied on 100% as last nights showers were not on the rainfall radars, so your best bet is to come I would say. They will definately do everything possible to run tonight. Fine and sunny at the moment (in feilding. Bulls and Sanson)

Ok let's sort out a few misconceptions. Firstly, I don't hate Bruce Robertson. I don't even know him, I am sure that with Bruce been around speedway as long as I have been spectating, which would be almost fourty years one should appreciate the untold hours he has poured into providing entertainment for many thousands of people over many years. Notwithstanding this from a spectators viewpoint I do disagree with the logic around attempting to run three or four hours of entertainment when the odds are stacked against you from Mother Nature. From a personal perspective, my family and I have travelled to almost every speedway track in the country over the years and have witnessed some fantastic racing and some really well organised meetings and without a doubt Rotorua, in my opinion, is head and shoulders above any other track and has been for some time. Coming from a farming background, I understand the weather predictions can also be wayward but in the cases that I refer to, where Palmy has attempted to run meetings, there has never been any doubt that the meeting would be disrupted by the weather. My family and I travel thousands of kilometres every speedway season and yes it is our choice but it is extremely frustrating when you travel 2 hours one way to attend a meeting, having previously trolled through social media to ascertain that the meeting is still on, only to get to Palmy find the weather is dodgy, and has been dodgy all day, only to buy a hamburger and head 2 hours home without seeing anything. Additionally more than once this year we have sat in the car park till the last minute before paying top dollar to enter Manawatu Arena only to get three or four races in and then the pin has been pulled after the obligatory races where a refund no longer applies. I understand that the promoters are keen to delay the dreaded cancellation call for as long as possible as I am sure there would be some sunk costs that would be unrecoverable when the meeting is canned but I just wish that these promoters could sometimes consider that there are speedway enthusiasts that come from outside the Manawatu to watch especially super stocks and get frustrated when the inevitable call to cancel the meeting could be made a little earlier. I hope that some you now understand where I am coming from Regards Barry , m8 next time get on ya computer go to the palmy website and look at the weather pic that should give you a bloody good idea of what the weather is doing

I for one have fingers crossed that tonight goes ahead. Travelled down from hamilton yesterday to compete to stand in the rain in the pits waiting for a decision to be made when clearly it was obvious it should have been called earlier

Hard to believe some people actually thought there might be racing this weekend. Just needed to look out the window or flick on the TV news and you would of pretty much seen that it was wet wet wet! It was like Deja vu with the Palmy promoters again.

so where is everybody on here this morning praising them up for calling it so early ? the weather held long enough for Bruce to have dragged plenty of fans down at gunpoint to hold half a meeting then give them free passes to another one. what a shocker PN promotion - ya got it wrong again.

i feel sorry for the promoters . one of their biggest problems would be with the contours of the track. with it being so flat, water runoff is always going to be marginal. a metre of fall across the track and another couple of metres of track width to allow for safe racing away from the wall would make a HUGE difference. a bit of replacable pole-line where the dead ball area(rugby)is would solve any problems with the minor user of the facility.

The promoter is the one taking the risk and going by history you would be glad to see it fail anyway. Are you going to put the same post on the Northland Stockcar Nationals or 2Ks final meeting which appear to both also be on 3 may ?
