is there really a problem with the class when it gets over 100 cars for a national title, and over 50 cars for a club championship?

I think yes because the fastest car vs the slowest car at the nz champs is a too bugger gap personally. The high numbers make it bloody hard to qualify, some national titles you get 7 cars from each group go through yet stockcars is top 3 or 4 almost, maybe if they were split into diff classes that might help? Or then again as people say and I akso somewhat agree it might not either it may hurt it. Once again I'll say I think my personal thoughts are that some ppl may be too precious about Thier race cars that they spend 30-40k (sometimes more) on and then get upset that someone takes them out or gets in the way in a 8k piece of crap car, where instead there could be a whole heap of them (cheap cars) together not caring if they get hit, I for one would sell my big dollar engine race car in place for a cheapie with no hp in to smash around with similar built cars and provide crowd entertainment rather than race for flags. I can honestly say I enjoyed the smashing and crashing in the consolation race in Auckland than I did winning the feature at baypark. Just slow us down a little so the damage is less and my body isn't as sore haha ... Still smiling ear to ear none the less either way!

Adding this option will make a significant cost difference (much lower running costs, & cost to aquire) when it is added as an option to the superstock class. As mentioned already, the last thing needed is yet another class that will water down the fields even more. This engine option has proven quite compatible, & for those already running a 9 inch diff in there stockcar, will fing there is no need to go to a quick change diff given the very wide spread of torque. I like to think we should be future proofing what we have rather then adding more 'so called' budget classes that often become expensive lemons. Another factor to concider looking forward, is the Fonterra factor. I don't think we have felt the affects of the massive payout drops that our dairy farmers are about to expeh and crashrience, & the same for forestry & oil, all industries that keep our sport going. I think the affect on competitor numbers looking forward will likely be quite adversely affected without quite significant gains, particularly in the dairy sector. Like it or not, a problem for the dairy farmer is a problem for NZ. No, I don't think there needs to be yet another class, rather massage what we have. One of the GB cars is theirs too - what was the 52p before the new one arrived. Anyway, I think another class is a really interesting concept - but many tracks wouldn't have the numbers to justify it. Surely if someone wants to drive to A/ race fast or B/ bash and crash, then they can do either they choose, and choose what $ they put in their car. If there was a class of stock car that was primarily about "race fast", with less contact in normal circumstances, then isn't that what superstocks are? Classic case is 137a. When in the Superstocks he drove to race, and used the bumper where necessary. However when he returned to the 137a stock car, he was straight back into the block, crash and bash mode - not a full pace lap al night!

Id actually almost keep my current car and race in stockcars and then akso buy a crapper so I could do double duties if that ever happened haha good times best of both worlds double the races

Bang on there Boner87.. Bring it all back so everyone is on a fairly even peg . The only problem if make too many sweeping changes it will cost current racers possibly quite a bit to comply with new rules (if was to happen). Gradually changes like a 3-5 year plan would be a good start

This topic has interested me a lot as I would be interested in this class as an introductory sort of class to the sport, yes im sure you could go down the route of production saloons to get into the sport but in there own right a totally different drive compared to stockcar racing. As it is it can be quite intimidating going to the track and seeing top cars in your field and the money/skill/experience that goes along with seasoned racers. Could this class be used as a bridging class? Could it be an on a budget class? Could it be an intro class? as it is lets say you get a car that doesn't quite measure up to the other cars your racing always coming in last... there are quite a few cars out for sale for under the $10,000 mark but how they stack up against the $25,000+ cars is a totally different story. My 2 Cents

To even the field up could this work: Snz approved parts the come from a small number of suppliers. For example, carb, manifold, cam and head to be all the same designs/specs. Maybe a hard thing to police but if restrictions like that could come in there isnt a hell of alot more you could do to the engine that would give a significant advantage??

Control tyres and spring rates. Your $18k hartley wont do jack if its trying to put power through a 195/60r15 and a 400lb spring lol

Speaking of tyres.... The price of stockcar tyres are almost or in some cases the same or even more than Hoosiers anyway, would make the class interesting if they gave us a set tyre to run, but because tyre sizes effect diff ratios so much it makes it a bit harder, time for quick changes maybe lol (contradiction to what I'm saying in a way)

It will never happen unfortunately. Imagine it, teams type racing at your local track once or twice a month with 30 car fields. No tarpaulins held up against the fence. Can't have a lesser class being more fun and popular than others.
There must be a lot of cars sitting in sheds that are not worth the hassel and cost to bring up to todays specs, yet would be ideal for whats being discussed in this thread.

if you want to be competitive in the class these days (stockcars) you need to have 10k+ spent on your motor! id be pissed if i blew mine up that would be me out of the sport. where as if i could go spend a grand at the wreckers if i blew one and bolt in and go in the conversational class we'd be sorted!

Ive seen a stock standard au falcon engine in a chestnutt chassis - basic as hell everything, hold off a 20k engine in a new spacey with top dollar everything... If it hadnt been for a rollover behind them both it would have taken the flag - the spacey started on grid two, chestnutt on pole. I know both drivers. Both are darn good so maybe talent is what did it - but i gotta be honest, too many drivers are just buying thier talent instead of learning it like the low buck racers.
