Initially reading this thread I thought World War III had started. Then I thought the world was about to end given some of the postings. Now I realise it's just two Superstock drivers not driving at one meeting for personal reasons. Is this really worth an 8 page thread? The show will go on, the Teams Champs will be a great meeting and the Panthers will probably still win. and 8 hours later there's 8 more pages..... Barry B Did you also notice in 30hrs it had 20,000 hits.

Well it is only my opinion of course, but what did I learn from the interview - nothing! If you are happy with your performance great. Really? I got a heap out of the interview. Rees is protesting the way Humphrey was dealt with but is not calling it quits. What more did we need?

Okay, I heard Chads fine was $1500 and 3 months, ( not sure if correct) how is that fair against $50 and 1 week?

Maybe this thread does need to be locked. I go offline for a few hours and come back to another 6 pages to trawl thru! hahaha. Some say Asher appealed the $50 fine and got let off, Ive had others tell me he was told to just shut up and pay the $50. Going slight ly o/t - there is also another rule re the Chad Ace incident, apparently, where the ref can red-light a race he deems "dangerous" and the driver causing the danger be fined accordingly. No doubt someone sitting at that table drinking $10 beers will shed some light on that. Im just going to go back to preparing my new Tigers costume and better-wired air horn now.

I'll have a go at explaining the difference in the rules and enforcement of.
The Asher Rees hit on 79p was under the old straightlining rule. That rule required an official to prove "obvious intent" which proved difficult. It was difficult because a third car was involved which punted Asher into the corner and there was no turn in from Asher. Given the circumstances it was hard to prove "obvious intent". As a result of this hit (and probably others) the rule was changed to a principled based approach. So the Asher hit was marginal under the rule at the time. Had it occurred under the current rule different story.
The Chad Ace hit was precisely the type of hit that is being targeted by the new rule. Ace showed no intention to make the corner and drove straight ahead at full speed at the end of the straight to hit the 3nz entry. Despite what many people tried to tell me in the relevant thread at the time the hit did occur in turn 1. There were no mitigating circumstances in the Chad Ace hit. It was a run-off and no other cars were involved. Given the severity of the hit the board had little option but to place a lengthy suspension because that hit now becomes a precedent for all future hits of a similar nature.
The third hit, 79p on 126p undoubtedly broke the rule about no contact past the chequered flag. There were however some mitigating circumstances that I believe saw the potential penalty reduced. The sunstrike was said to be severe and it has been divulged that several drivers missed the white and chequered flags. The race also had a number of stoppages which saw drivers lose track of the number of laps run. Another mitigating factor was that Asher had only just slowed down following the conclusion of the race. It wasn't as if Asher was drifting at walking pace around the track for half a lap prior to being hit. Finally, 79p driver has a clean record and had not even attracted as much as a fine through his years of racing (source FB). I understand 79p was fined a substantial amount of money in addition to his 7 day suspension but haven't had confirmation of that. So to summarise there were a number of mitigating circumstances that diminished the punishment handed out. Intention was not there, it was careless rather than deliberate.
What I've written above is simply how I see things and may not reflect the rationale of the officials involved. But I'd be willing to bet I'm pretty close.

Im just going to go back to preparing my new Tigers costume and better-wired air horn now. Mr Macgor I seek your wise counsel, can I use this thread to inform Mr Biggs of the pysical danger to his saftey and the very real possibility of the said air horn being inserted inside of the gentleman should his large horn discharge anywhere near me? Or do I need to start a new thread?

In my opinion it's quite clever how the Rees cars come apart like they do It reduces the transferred energy causing less injury an they carry spare everything's so easy to replace. Except the headers obviously.
And Rod is in my opinion the best and fairest in the country full stop. If Rees ain't gonna race that's his call.....a little strange as he loves teams but it's there call an there's only. I've not read 79ps reasons nor do I care to. Things happen on the track ya just go back an don't make the same mistake. Good on 79p for not pulling out of teams. Why should he. I'm sick of the politics an crying on this page and FB Grow up go racing an wreck some stuff That's what the paying public wanna see!

Ok, just my opinion on the Rees situation....I've always been a team rees fan hands down, but I've been tested here. IF this is totally related to the incident on Saturday night:
- the rees team have dished out hit after hit over the years, a few illegal ones to boot. They have nailed Kerry week in week out all season, I've been there at all but 2 Palmy meetings this season. Can they not take one themselves?? Yes it was an illegal hit, so...... - speedway nz have enforced the penalty in accordance with the rule book, why make themselves look silly when the punishment is in accordance with the crime?? Humphrey has never been stood down for anything in over 10 years of racing (that I can recall) - is this not selfish to their panthers team mates?? Disrespectful to the panthers name?? And honestly what for, what are they gaining?? No one is applauding them for this. - they are meant to be dual current 1nz's , again there seems to be no respect let alone pride for the privilege that many other drivers would give up so much for.
I think they could be regretting all of this behind closed doors. Hence why the interview was vague and all posts deleted from Facebook. SNZ won't change the decision just as Wayne Barnes didn't change his forward pass ruling in our ill fated World Cup of 2007. The referee made the decision, grow up, come back stronger, show the same sort of passion all these fans show for teams champs and just get over it. It will take a long time for me to cheer on the surname I've had so much awe and appreciation for over so many years.....

Have kinda lost a little respect for the rees lads but still worth paying 25 bucks of my hard earned cash at palmy when i can make it, they put on a spectacle every week.
I think the panthers are going to be fine with scott back where he should be and mcabe is a bay boy so hes as solid as they come.
Was wondering, had've kerry won the race and come round the corner and saw asher cruising along the wall, wouldve he still hit him? Couldnt see the flags....... sorry macgor a bit off topic but what are you doing racing if you cant spot a flag...... twice.
