Yes it would appear that way wouldn't it. For all we know 9g could be unavailable. They also took Tom Harris over Kyle Ashton who they took to Christchurch earlier in the season in the 125 car. But when able to build your dream team Tom Harris isn't to far down the list of drivers youd take, even if he is a pom, so why not take him? I would.

Good on the Giants I reckon. Tom Harris is one hell of a driver and he's always run with a G on his car when he's raced here, 84GBro. The Giants on paper now look like the team to beat and to those who question the use of Harris over locals, don't forget in 2008 Stu Smith represented the Mustangs ahead of a heap of other local cars. Guess the Palmerston North promotion set the precedent and the Giants have found a team member who most teams would love to have.

Well said mate..he's an entertainer..it's a pity he doesn't get to race along side Asher..wow that'd be fun to watch. There are some super strong teams this year..Mustangs & Panthers are both unseeded will make for some tough group racing night 1.

From his FB page he mentioned "Unfortunately due to work commitments 9G Superstock has had withdrawal from the World 240s this weekend but shall be back on the dirt in Rotorua on the 28th Jan Looking forward to seeing you all then and good luck to everyone competing tonight Ant"

Good to see the Gisborne Giants loaded with 'local' talent...... (tongue in cheek)
I mean really.....if you asked Tom Harris to point out where Gisborne city was on a map, do you think he would have the faintest idea....?
Now I know having the Giants present will make for great entertainment but could the club not get at least one local driver who actually lives in the province..?
Just saying...

When you consider that none of their registered drivers are local gisbornians why on earth would you stipulate that they need to fill that spot from the township of gisborne? they didnt do it last year and nobody moaned if i remember right it was more like 'good to have gisborne back'. If they did fill it with a local gisbornite they would be supplying them with a car so why not get tom over? I give credit for team rees or whoever it was that thought to pick up the phone and call him. I feel sorry for the guys racing them with 5 perfectly identical cars and no real way to tell them apart in the mirrors is gonna be a toughy.

Seriously, who cares? Just like Super Rugby, teams with players from out of region but you still support your local team. I just can't wait to get there as I do every year and lets just see teams who want to win get it on. I don't care where the drivers come from but just "Smash the P!"

The Gizzy invitation team. At least they are making up numbers but would have thought Tom Harris would have been in the GB team

Think they will be more than making up numbers, unless number 1 is the number they are making up

He's no different to any other ring-ins that many tracks get these days. Good on them aswell, if they didnt we wouldnt get half as many teams.

I have to say though - if the person who posted originally is complaining about the G team having Tom in - why aren't they getting up in arms about Dion Mooney being in the Tigers? Or Canterbury nabbing Ron Tye? Neither of these men (and darn teams racing nutbars) are locals for who they're representing, and we know that both Nelson and Canterbury are more than capable of running superstock classes (yes I know that various Nelsonians have withdrawn so don't use that as a reason to bag me out hahaha) but yet these two men are non-local and no one bats an eye. It's all the same thing - but somehow it's only the Gisborne team being called out... if you're going to do it to one team you might as well do it to all.
Also - unless you know exactly why the Gisborne team didn't have a single 'local' racer to add to the already impressive lineup, or why the G team has a ring-in ... why don't you stop complaining and just settle in for what is going to be one H E L L of a weekend?

Embrace it whether you like them or not, team Ree's aren't going to be around for ever and neither are the Giants. The teams need some spark and the panthers have been relegated in that regard with the rise of alternative sides. Anyone that can win against the Giant's know they have won against one of the best current sides. i suspect 98% of everyone is amped about seeing some of the true teams racing stars (Mooney, Tye, Harris etc) competing rather than stuck on the side lines.
