well that would be the most sensible thing, theres plenty of space ..take a look from above with google earth..the whole park is AKls only central motorsport park...what ever they do, a real development seems to be the answer in my mind..something that ticks enough boxes but doesnt leave us with a big empty cake tin like tauranga..nothing worse than no atmosphere at the track ...cant you come up with a concoction of two tracks one inside the other, the smaller track for contact classes...would it be impossible to run a concrete fence on the bend between the two tracks..sprints in america seem to race with a wall on pole line quite often..so whats a pole line for one man is an outer wall for another..jeez could we make it 3 tracks and put bike track of a decent size in there also, mixed meetings on two or three tracks in a purpose built environment..thats what akl needs... soccer and cricket got to go .and motorsport needs to say ..ok well..its designated motorsport territory..SNZ ASSCC Springers got to make something happen without sitting round waiting for council to tell you what your going to get...cause they will nearly always fk it up..imho lol...I can just picture bikes, stockcars and sprint cars all running on individual tracks ( one inside the other) at the same time. The spectators would not know where to look....And to really mix it up, have Streetstocks doing a reverse direction race.....Now that would look spectacular. John

The problem with tracks within a track is they are also atmosphere killers much like 2/thirds empty Bay Park.

Especially with a decent carrot to entice all the top teams and Drivers. Could be the way to go whilst their future venue gets sorted should it come to that.

All eyes now to the center track or your nearest big screen and dont forget the commentary on track radio..SNZ presents the NZ Ivan Mauger memorial Solo Championships, Under the roof at the New Waikaraka Park!! round 1 coming next..to be followed on the outer track by Auckland sprintcars then the stockcars get their first run of the night in the enclosed corner circuit ...its looking good for a great memorial meeting 2020!!

well the late 1980s Western Springs was closed most of one summer (apart from a few meetings in autumn) when they removed the cycle track and put in new wall and fencing and laid the first clay track. Most cars went to Kihikihi and the old Baypark. Goodie spent a lot of time running at Ruapuna.
I could see Huntly and Baypark picking up a lot more registrations if it all went ahead, though would not be surprised if one or two local sprintcars based themselves in Chch and did the War Of The Wings.
I remember the first accident on the new track was wheel packing, Tony Allen had a push truck turn in front of him and he had no way of avoiding it.

the big question no one has asked, does Dean Brindle's life time pass transfer? Thats fairly straight forward long Springs promotions are at the helm, wouldnt matter where they move to. lifetime pass will apply could go Timbuktoo lol

They ran about 6 meetings including final round WOO style series. along with NZ Tq midget car champs. actual venue wasnt closed for great length of time that really made too much of difference. compared possibility of 2 seasons without any open wheel racing if forced out western springs.

well without the springers professional attitude and corporate contacts I don't see the wacky park joint venture getting the assistance or backing that is required to get the amalgamation off the ground !!

well maybe the Holden dude and his three promotions and his various business dealerships think otherwise...we dont know... but I dont doubt for a moment that wise heads would have the right people in place to protect the promotions interests...and the clubs...it'll be about long term financing and funding..."if you want it,,, then you should have put a roof on it"... lets just get a roofed stadium built...lets make rock promos pay for everything and race for free...every week of the year if we want...(other than those weeks that we are renting out our grounds to the rolling stones etc..) why dig holes when you can sell shovels....

Got rescinded, as he lived too long, couldn't be used at the world cup.
