I would imagine the Super Saloons & Modifieds would be happy to run under a SPL run stadium. Sprintcars, Super Saloons, Midgets, Modifieds, TQs, F2s, 1/4 Midgets !!! 18 nights to showcase all these cars! I wouldn't be so sure of that - the super saloons for one have successfully set up their own events and race series which they market and sell back. SPL knows the attendance figures go up when these guys and gals run at Western Springs - so do the guys and gals who have put more than 10 years into building up the class and promotion value - they know what they are worth and so does the Modified Dirt Cup series. Do you really think they are going to hand it over? Truth is more likely to be SPL need these other classes to deal with anything more than 12 nights, because they only have 2 classes that anybody actually watches. By the way the other classes already have 25 nights in Auckland. 18 nights and handing over their own promotion value to someone else does not sound like a very good deal to me. AND you grossly underestimate the strength of the Waikaraka Park Club if you think these guys and gals would leave the other classes not on your list to fend for themselves.

Very much like belonging to ASSCC a few years ago even now it seems they vacate at there random choice ..

The BK Series takes the "better" drivers to compete in that series. Due to the number of events the drivers in that series tended to not want to run on club nights. I therefore had 5 drivers that were not part of the BK series who were not getting many races. 5 is not really enough to put on a good show on their own. This upcoming season things will be different (hopefully). There are some more Supers signing on and a new "local" series. This means the drivers that are primarily out to enjoy the sport will get a good number of races with some good fields.
Saloons and Super Saloons classes are both growing at ASSCC and numbers look very strong next season - keeping in mind that sign on has not started so this is very unofficial. At this stage I look to have 15 Super Saloons and 25 Saloons. Initially it looks like 3 Supers may join BK leaving 12 to race on club nights.

Reading everything here it would appear that SPL/springs fans will only be happy with a takeover whereas ASSCC is more willing to merge. I still see no speedway at all in Auckland being a real possibility

Hmmmm, can anyone tell me what the prize money pay out is please for theyhe “premier classes” on any given night ? I would imagine the Supers or the Mods would be lucky to run for $1000 overall per class?, however across town it’s more like $4,000-$5,000 - so what does that tell you? It tells me that not all competitors are in it for the prizemoney. Without knowing all the details of SPL's Income and Expenditure 4 or 5k may be good or bad as a percentage of Income. I would think both promotions pay what they can afford and going forward regardless of the outcome around "the future of Western Springs" the same theory will apply.

I think, if SPL want too they should put on what shows they like in fact it should upto the drivers/car owners where hey race and if the springs offer a $5k purse, tv, big crowds etc then they should be able to run Supers every week if they choose too. Gone are the days if we are “good old club racers” the reality is the racing costs money and how can those poor guys attract sponsors and run for love out there in its current situation- now Huntly that’s a different story , that club invests in the place and the drivers and owners can see that.

There is something very valid in the first part your post crewcheif! I am convinced this has as much to do with the Auckland mentality as anything! And before anyone gives me sh** ...I am a born and raised Aucklander I have been reading these posts and have been thinking for some time that this sh** could only happen in Auckland...and meantime the rest of the country just gets on with it! The `us and them` mentality will do no favours for anyone moving forward...my 5 year old nephew who loves speedway might not have anything to love if this discontent and ego stroking keeps up. Western Springs is obviously the absolute best place to be and can do no wrong and I sincerely hope SPL can continue as it has in the past at Western Spring but I would suggest your "better than us" attitude is left behind if they shut the door and things don't pan out the way you hope.

What about the following...simply a suggestion!
Venue is Waikaraka Park because this is what is being offered. And a company is set up to manage the venue.
SPL and Bruce Robertson continue as the promoters for the classes they represent in Auckland.
The season is divided into equal parts for each promoter with perhaps a couple of nights where both promoters work together to combine classes.
The ASSCC either continues status quo...or changes name to incorporate the existing Springs classes...or if need be the Springs classes have a club of their own to represent the drivers interests.
Or am I just dreaming?

Is a secure future and suitable facilities. These two things regardless of one or two venues will enable people to invest with confidence and hopefully a snowball effect will be created. How things are promoted is an argument for another day but the competitors opinions should be taken into consideration.

I think the Big picture has been around the place for a number of years ,but the good old kiwi attitude She,will be right mate has taken preference . A lot of good ratepayers money would have to be spent in up grading the place ,plus the parking is very restrictive if being rebuilt to the satisfaction of all interested parties involved in the sport . Old wounds never heal easy but it has happened many times in progress moving forward ....
