Maybe a track built for Stockcars that dont run side by side safely would have far better crowd appreciation and bums on seats ...

The post above from AP57 might just be the #1 post of the year. I'll point out that going to 20 meetings doesn't necessarily mean all classes would race 20 times. Springs could host a full meeting with 3 out of current 4 classes. 20 meetings a year would also open the possibility of inviting more classes for a night. We already invite Super Saloons for Rolling Thunder. Modifieds & Saloons could also feature for a meeting which means a 20-meeting season could be run with each Springs class running 14 times. I agree with Percy. AP57 makes a lot of sense and if the big picture of speedway could have come together for the greater good then we might be talking about that, but I fear the horse has bolted on this now. The first mistake was admitting publicly that Western Springs was too small and the sport had outgrown it. There will be no way back from that position and SPL / Springs Racers have lost any leverage they had. They are now firmly at the mercy of the bigger political game that was never about speedway. I fear the greatest mistake was allowing a fractured and public debate where people started using words like 'not safe', 'dangerous' and 'rolling along the wall will kill the driver'. I hope I am wrong, but I think we all have a big problem now. The public statements about walls and safety fences won't have gone unnoticed and will have highlighted an issue that is going to need a lot of explaining. This could become its own issue with potentially much bigger consequences. I hope I am wrong.... but I fear talk about safety won't have gone unnoticed by landlords and this whole circus will morph into a much bigger issue for all of speedway.

Springs is 10m wide on the straights, 16m in the corners and flat - it is a stock car track and has been for decades. In fact most stock car tracks are wider than that. Until 4 months ago it was apparently the best open wheeler track in the world if you believe what you read over what you see. Keep banging the drum - someone has to.

Oh Mr Osh , Work & safe ,and the mines department yes they do beat my drum ,but they cant answer questions of common sense to well can they Yes i kind of recall somethings of where stockcars raced in Auckland and the tracks raced on and also some stockcar drivers driving there cars home after racing in the night like Johny Riley And Red Dawson ... Iam sure the right steel will be in the right place if a new venue was be built along with the wall of concrete ,gone are the days of she will be right attitude . Alot could be said of the present status of presentation regarding walls of concrete ,and who actually repairs them and the brittle old railway irons past the use by date ,that would open up a can of worms now doubt Go Fast ... I know just recently we tried obtaining the old concrete barriers for a pit wall to put Palm kernel in and was given a letter stating the reasons why they now go to the crusher for concrete rubble ..there seems no perks no more for us poor pensioners does there ... l Lets hope we are able to get Colin dale up and running and we might find a Wendy,s burger bar open with an ex Waitemata rugby player outside still rubbing his sore knee caps ... autographs ....

Hope Nicki Hager does a reprint of his book : Dirty Politics : and adds a chapter , Western Springs negotiation with council to move to Colin Dale Park. Also hope out of this the council remember before these back hand dealings came about, they had a proposal on the table with W.P. for a rebuild of their stadium.

The only reason the track has been good the last two meetings is because a Parramatta speedway person was helping with track prep, might be back to normal boxing night, hope im wrong.I see one of the councilers went to waikaraka on fireworks night and really enjoyed it and she said she wants to see waikaraka turned into a top facility,i just hope she gets the backing she needs.

In todays NZ Herald big headlines that Eden Park trust is begging the council for a $100m bailout. Mayor Goff has stated that the Eden Park bail out is to take priority over the RFA other projects as the council already has an unpaid $40m loan to the trust plus maintenance of $60m required . Looking at this W.P. and W.S. will be a long way down the list as Housing and Transport is at the top of councils agenda then we have the millstone called Eden Park nibbling away at their heels.

Why is it the councils problem that Eden Park needs maintenance? Trust Board owns it let them fund it.

with all the rubbish around this, is it likely it will be in the too hard basket and give another extension to give them time to sort, or is March the end regardless if they have somewhere to go?

Going on the council is getting ready to cut the trees down around WS I'd say March is it. Which track will gain numbers next season I wonder, Kihi Kihi?

What I'm struggling with is the $91m for the upgrade at the springs for cricket. While I understand that Auckland Council has unlimited funding (just ask the ratepayers for more) it seems that their intention is still to accomidate the local residents. I acknowledge that we could certainly have a more suited track however, at what cost to the city. What ever happened to doing the best you can with what you have...
