Anyone know how many entries for the Super Saloon Champs. Central Motors speedway have listed about 8 drivers which seems a bitvof a dismal turn out.

Really disappointing numbers, have seen not far from that at a night at the Glen this season. Doesn’t really seem like a 2 day show, lowest numbers from the north that I can remember

1 week out, it is next weekend, and not just a club night, I’d imagine any crews heading from far away would be entering and getting their ducks in a row well in advance so wouldn’t be expecting the Northern numbers to swell

I was there for the last super saloon champs, when peter dickson won. from memory ,there were 45 cars entered. They were going on about some new format then that saves the wreck fest. Every north island car failed to finish the final. Think 9 cars finished or something. Malcolm ngati being the last of those in his first season.

Certainly not going down to watch on those numbers; and wouldn’t be surprised if some of the “non solid contenders” now pull out. It’s a great event to run and would be awesome track to run on one day. But if ends up being like a normal local championship you must reconsider the time and cost. Last time down there I opted out competing when I calculated $6K even if car doesn’t leave the trailer. That now looks about $9K before any racing expenses… (from upper north island) Feel for the Cromwell club because spectating in 17 was perhaps best I’ve ever seen.

Couldn’t be too confident on Burson, the major changes to his car just haven’t quite stuck for him yet
My dark horse would be 6c Kane Lawson, very impressive in the new car, minus a bit of luck so far

is the low numbers due to the 4 bar issue that seems to be real. Not an advocate either way but those numbers are low for an NZ title. When was the last NZ title with these numbers?

Think the 15 heats before a final format is being used for this one, how many groups do they need to split into for that ?
Presuming it will be 5 groups of 5, 10 cars on the track at a time for the heats. Any less than that might really detract from the event

Think I just found something to answer my own question, looks like 8 car heat races
“Every car gets to do hot laps and at the same time each cars fastest lap will be used to place the car in one of the 6 groups. Fastest time to group one, second fastest lap to group two and so on. Using the lap times to place each car in a group means there is no human interference or accusation of one group being weaker or stronger than another group. Once the groups are sorted, the groups will be drawn from a hat so no one will know which group will be first or last heat.”

This format will be rubbish without change. 8 car heats will do nothing for the sport. In saying that 25 cars, for the nz champs, is doing nothing for the sport. It is plain and clear that this class is broken.
Add in the support classes and this will be a two day meeting with one good race.
Feel very sorry for the Cromwell club.

unsure what changes can be made to format at this late stage. If nothing then it will be a meeting to be missed.
