IRA was, and still is, but I am bound to have more amongst my unsorted modified stash. Here are two I found after a quick look.

Here are a few newspaper scans of Rotorua mods back at the beginning of the class, circa 1977. Ross Baker: Phil Andricksen: M.Gray and Glen Free: Ross Baker and J.Parry: Andricksen, Parry, and Adrian Kaye: Is the number 5 car in the top picture the car that ended up in Christchurch raced by Myles Forsey and then Graeme Archbold. If it is I know that Myles has obtained this car back and has or is in the middle of a full rebuild. The last time i poked my head into his shed it was looking like brand new. My all time time favourite driver of all time was Roger Bertrum and I remember him when I was growing up and all I ever wanted to do was race a modified. And before you say anything Autopete I'm still not quite sure what happened there since I ended up going down the superstock path Watching the likes of Gordge, Bertrum, jones and the like was some of the best racing I remember when I was young. Would love to see some more pics of the old time Christchurch drivers Jumbo Berryman, Mike Allan, Joe Annan, Kenny Hannah, Graeme Archbold, Olly Davies and John Lovelady and the likes. Aaaaagh the good old days

Aaaaagh the good old days I cant knock you for going down the SS road as the Mods arent what they used to be are they??? Hairs raise on the back of my neck when you mention names like Giles,Davies and co. My Jim Beam addiction was all their fault and I have never recovered!!! ;D Probably the glory days for the class IMHO was 91- through to around 95 in the South Island and there were many great cars, drivers and crews involved then.

Hey guys, those were the days, Been around the mods for about 17 years now. I do recall things different though. There were only a handful of drivers that were much quicker then the rest. But plenty of memorable cars none the less. I think this year coming is going to be one of the best seasons ever with about 10 top cars out of Auckland 11 or so out of Stratford and about the same at the sth Island racing is going to be first class. The NZ champs is going to be one of the hardest fought battles in the last 10-15 years. Resurgence; I think so.

And finally here it is restored to when Myles Forsey raced it. This car was used as the pace car for this years NZ mod champs driven by Myle's daughter and current South Island sprintcar champion Karen Forsey. Just awesome

Interesting how the NZ Modifieds were similar to the Modifieds in the US at the time but then took such different paths with the NZ mods turning almost into sprint cars while the US mods became IMCA mods. There is a cool thread if you have a few hours to kill here on 60s and 70s US mods www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=174989
