Like others I smoked a lot for a long time & still enjoy a whiff of cigarette smoke that can light up my senses. We can joke, say we're ok with it & believe we are in no harm, but then we have stuff all in the way of facts to back this up. I know of no evidence that says it is good for us. Mostly statements go like this "Parents who smoke often open a window or turn on a fan to clear the air for their children, but experts now have identified a related threat to children’s health that isn’t as easy to get rid of: third-hand smoke. That’s the term being used to describe the invisible yet toxic brew of gases and particles clinging to smokers’ hair and clothing, not to mention cushions and carpeting, that lingers long after second-hand smoke has cleared from a room...." www.nytimes.com/2009/01/03/health/research/03smoke.html?_r=1For years I was critical of all these things as I'm sure many others are, but unless arguements for smoking can be supported with scientific reasoning as strong as those against it none of these arguements have a leg to stand on & the possibility exists we are being harmed a lot more than we think.

Good to read that after eight months you are still off the cancer sticks Murray Guy. Well done. And saving about $150 per week to boot as well, plus less need for that elusive sponsor I've been to Barpark twice. The last time on Boxing Day to watch the sprinters. Great meeting and contrary to what I had read and expected there was a large crowd in attendance. I sat high up in the covered grand stand in line with start/finish line. I must admit the second hand smoke was very noticeable and annoying. I suspect the problem was compounded a bit by smoke being fanned by the sprinters turbulence out away from the track up towards the grandstand where it became trapped under the grandstand roof. There it had no where to escape easily. So I support a ban on smoking in covered grand stands, but that probably wouldn't have been the case if I was still puffing away.

when you have no choice where you sit as in pre designated seating ( Palmy Grandstand ) then only a fool would suggest it's OK to puff away next to a non smoker, kids, etc. I have noticed a real effort being made by smokers in all situations not to inflict their habit on others. Thumbs up to them. the analogy used earlier in the thread about banning cars because of the fumes.. it's already been done It will be a great day when the only place you can see a cigarette is in a museum.

don't worry about the smokers , what about the kids kicking the back of your seat or kicking the empty ones. Permission to throw them from the grandstands please. ;D Don't let this PC world get hold of speedway. Let all the other PC bullnuts thats going on around us be a lesson to us all. Next will be no booze then no hotdogs and chips. Before you know it we will be stuck with a diet of tofu burgers and mung beans washed down with a nice warm cup of soy milk. live life and enjoy yourself and take a little risk every now and then. If things didn't work out to your satisfaction re-evaluate it and fix it or flag it and do something else. Peter (non smoker)

great. a by product of you smoking is second hand smoke which can harm others. Yr stance is very arrogant in my opinion.
I like to have a few drinks. My by product of that is i need to pee sometimes. Is it right that I pee on you? Prob not. I can go to the toilet, why can't u find a place to smoke away from others.
Otherwise PM me with where you sit and you can smoke on me and I can pee on you.
Win Win?

i think this is a losing battle on both sides...
willie k does have it right though, he will find it hard to make smokefree zones at baypark without affecting the loyal every event supporters who are smokers.
i still think turns 1 and 2 should be smoke free... hehehe

Works for me Porky. That's where I sit. Smoke free works for me. Saves me peeing on people. May not even have to go to the toilets if I can pee on my own seat.

If YOU are over-weight and sit next to someone, a child, the only risk you pose to them is if you sit on them, block their view. Should you choose to smoke next to them, you choose to cause them, at best, extreme unpleasantness and at worst, potentially contribute to their early death. Seems to me this debate has very little to do with what's 'politically correct' and more to do with, do smokers have the right to cause discomfort and harm on others? Strange the fact that few would light a smoky fire in their back yard if the wind had the smoke billowing into the neighbours - Yet some believe it acceptable behaviour to blow cancer causing smoke up the nose of those sitting around them! It's a strange, strange world we live in, Master Jack.

Export Gold:
1. Why did u tarnish a good product name with a stupid post like that? 2. Do you go to the pub and smoke where u like? 3. People can and will differ in opinions but it sounds like this has hit a sore spot. I dont mind sitting next to smokers, but not with my kids. Do you have any? If so do you expose them to your poision? I was going to say that if you don't have any, please do me a favour and not breed...but I think I will keep it to myself...oops too late.

can i ask the non smokers why is it they find smokers so offensive yet they are quite happy to waft in all the fuel fumes, oil fumes, rubber fumes, dust fumes (and some tracks smell very weird. hate to think what additives they are using) not only that but they are actually paying for the privledge to be there. speedways are far from being a green zone. personnaly avgas offends me, however i put up with it and dont feel the need to complain.

Different days different tangents teams junkie. Get a tad annoyed with staunch smokers. PM me if you want other sites to look at.
Peeing and smoke i thought was a good anology. Bigger fish to fry or smoke at the mo.
