Buster I personally dont give a rats about whether u or my mates smoke..totally your choice. Again dont care if you smoke around me. But why should people expose kids to it!!!! I use to smoke but would never around my kids. They will have enough issues to deal with in life without added this to the foray. I worked in the hospo industry for a few years and retired just before the anti smoking laws came to effect. We where not looking forward to telling people to get out of the bar if they where to light up. We all thought mayhem would happen, but people accepted it. Although walking thru a crowd late in the night at the bar its a different smell that makes you gag... So if you are outside smoking at a bar...whats the difference to outside smoking at speedway? KIDS!!!! No problem xport.. ;D Would love to then you will be able to see my six finger for real...LOL I reciprocate the offer if u are ever down in banjo country.

In my opinion the vast majority of the non smoking brigade are ill informed.
Brainwashed by doo gooding campaigns suggesting secondhand smoke is four times more deadly than inhaled smoke, does that mean that ordinary exhaled air is three times more deadly than uninhaled air? should we ban breathing?.....no what that stat actually means is that the minute amount of smoke that comes of the side of the smoke as it is idle is four times as harmful, in reality that smoke is so slow in its production and low in its volume that its mixed with enough fresh air to enul most of the risk.
Similar manipulation of statistics occurs with the ltsa, who continuosly flop out statistics about the alarming number of road deaths per licensed drivers. A study of the number of road deaths per km's travelled (remember, you can only have an accident while driving) reveales that we have one of the lowest tolls in the world. However the bombardment of misinformation means that you have armies of vigilanty traffic cops out there pulling fingers, blocking people and generally making asses of themselves. I can't help see a similar trend here.
Its now being understood that mouthwash may cause oral cancer, should you not breath your minty breath over us smokers.
Many things annoy people at speedway, small children misbehaving, loudmouthed louts, my lady hates the mud. Should we ban those things to.
It guts me that the snivellers and fun police devote so much time and energy into turning the screws further into peoples libertys and attempt to prescribe a code of living for one and all.
I'm not saying that smoke is good for anyone, but it ain't bad for a bystander in an outdoor arena, and if ya don't like it, get over it, An individual should not have to modify his own law abiding behavior to make your world perfect- thats up to you.
This country used to pride itself on being friendly and laid back, but this is going by the wayside as its public are turned against each other by misinforming lobby groups. Hitler did a similar thing

golly gosh " Lucas Injection ' -- you have really gone off the beaten track.
The question " smoking in fixed seating areas " -- YES -- definately -- I am not a smoker and dont care a Rats A ... , if people smoke or not , but I do object to people smoking around me and blowing the stuff in my direction -- you watch a smoker and they always take a drag and turn their head and blow it toward a non smoker -- really gets up my nostrils !!!!!
As for smoking in the pits -- isnt that just common sense ,and not allowed. Gisborne have a No Smoking in the pits and they police it . Surprised the number of people who ignore it and security told them to put their ciggies out. So they disappear to the back of the pits and continue to smoke - wonder how they would feel if their stupidity caused a fire

Yeah fair enough, probably was a bit of an aside.
I must say I intended no offence to anyone with my post ( and indeed will make a greater effort to be cautious with my smoking),
I do enjoy debating the issues and examining the thought processes behind different sides of the arguement.
cheers dan

Thats what a forum is for banter banter banter It is good to discuss your own personal view and spin on things. I even agree with exports post earlier re being too PC.. Just went bout it in a round about way How would speedway police the non-smoking in the stadium anyway? More security = more costs/overheads = Greater Cost for entry. Would that be acceptable? I would rather stay with status quo IMHO.

This country used to pride itself on being friendly and laid back, but this is going by the wayside as its public are turned against each other by misinforming lobby groups. Hitler did a similar thing Good post Dan. I have read this thread with interest. As one who things smoking has got to be the most brainless activity a person could engage in, you would think I should be wanting it banned. On the contrary while making a smoke free area where certainly has merits, I would not advocate banning smoking in open out door area's. That just smacks of the nanny state attitude, all to common in NZ. Where we normally sit among a lot of Te Marua regulars, there are a number of smokers, all bar 2 of them stand at the back to have a f*g. What I don't like is people who don't consider anyone but themselves. There are glaring examples of this on both sides of the debate of this thread. One thing I love about the speedway community is the way we all pull together as one when something goes wrong (like Mick's sidecar accident). Yet at other times we moan our butts off at each other about trivial things. If we would just consider one another we would not have to have rules and regulations about every little thing, we have more than enough of those already.

I have to agree about the Statistician's misleading the general public.. 4 times more harmful? Maybe if you try to eat the hot end.. it's all fuel on the fire. Same goes for the LTSA..
But it has my support if it discourages speeders, dangerous driving on the roads, Plants the seed to make people take another look at intersections, wait for the overtaking lane. same goes for the Smokers maybe having second thoughts as to where they light up.
