With Wellington agreeing to contract and run minisprints, the expansion continues. Adds more weight to the class staus of "National" as opposed to Modified Sprints running mainly at one track being classed as "Local". It seems that no-one outside of Ruapuna is pushing for Modified Sprints.

Adds more weight to the class staus of "National" as opposed to Modified Sprints running mainly at one track being classed as "Local". It seems that no-one outside of Ruapuna is pushing for Modified Sprints. I still fail to see how one Island can be classed as National - heck productions are more National than mini-sprints (and Saloons to be honest) Your statement has some merit by the fact that no-one outside of Ruapuna is pushing for Modifiedsprints, maybe thats through lack of knowledge about the class combined with the fact that the class doesnt travel as much as it should (kinda double edged sword there) I would like to know drivers thoughts on what it means to win an Island only "national title" does it hold the same prestige??? (Seriously) As I stated earlier (waayyy back actually) I dont want to get into a mud slinging match over this - seems the very mention of this has hit a raw nerve with the North island fraternity... The Modifiedsprints are quite happy where they are situated at the moment (Regional), sure more cars and a bit more travel would be great - But we are under no pretences about trying to obtain a National title, or trying to become a national class again in the near future - maybe if the class was to have an explosion in numbers much like the mini-sprints had in the North, we could concider approaching SNZ about getting the National title re-instated...... The (relatively newly formed) Christchurch Modifiedsprint Club has several ideas on the cards that will hopefully boost the profile of the class here - but we aint counting chickens yet..... Sdemon

Sdemon is right, the only reason the Modified Sprints were made regional was because they only ran in the South Island, not to do with their numbers! They ran in Auckland awhile as why it was initially a National class but due to issues up there Ruapuna became the only track to contract them.
Based on this theory, if there are no cars running in the South (regardless on numbers in the North) the class should be Regional. I am not saying I want them to be, just that this is what the rules imply.
Numbers of cars come into it when you want to move from Regional to a National class. You need X amount of cars and X amount of tracks running them to be able to apply for National Status.
In my experience, Modified Sprint and Minisprint drivers are quite different people who are in their respective cars for different reasons. Trying to merge them is like trying to merge TQ's and Midgets, some people might do it but most people like what they have got. Often due to bike vs car motors and Dollars!
The current issues with both Modified Sprints and Minisprints are not easy ones to solve but I think the people in each of the classes will be their sucess.

how many people have you handed your sponsorship proposals to basil. probably none thats why you dont have sponsors. there is plenty of money out there you just have to be a good salesmen and talked them in to it with good proposals. get brad to cough up the cash to race. he is the one that drives it and has the job.
