just did some late night maths, and i THINK the dash grids should be as follows dash 1 (finishing order to determine first 8 inside cars for feature) 59a 13i 61a 74a 1nz 17r 75m 28m Dash 2 (finishing order to determine first 8 outside cars) 21h 15m 10m 46m 29m 89m 47m 66 thats working back on peoples grid positions to work out there qualifying position, then inverting the top 4 Cars are rank from fastest to slowest by qualifying time.

I thought there was supposed to be a marble draw that inverted between 0 and 4 of the grids in the dashes . all the info was/is on the entry form on the snz site . was that marble draw done last night or is it yet to be done?.

Raceing shouldn't be so complicated . The raceing was good to watch , but still don't understand the system even tho i have seen it a few times now. Might be all those blonde roots eh ;D
Good thing about the system is towgood can still come through and win even after a bad night and unlike the N I Champs the other night , the winner of the last race is the NZ Saloon champ.
46m Corrin was flying lastnight and it was good to see 13i all the way from the deep south doing so well . Good skills dude

Warning people drive safe on BOP road as 4 killed in that area out of 8 holiday deaths . One not far down to road from Baypark overnight. Was great to see Police Breath testing on Barkes Corner Roundabout on SH29 last night after racing.

The public was deprived of watching Sammy Swindell to be fair His night consited of:- 2 Hotlaps 2 Laps for Time Trials 2 Laps in shoot out Then Final for 30 Laps..

Yes, who knows, I give up. Just like the entry form says the first 8 cars from the 2 dashes (which = 16 cars) form the front of the grid, but grids 13 to 20 are reserved for the top 8 in the B Main. Grids 13, 14, 15 and 16 are going to be very crowded!!!

i spent a bit of time trying to explain the format to a saloon driver the other night , obviously expecting mum , dad & the kids to figure it out from the stand is just silly.

I guess the only race that makes sense from the stand is the only race that counts - the last one. And that should be a doozie. I have no problem with 1x20 lap, 24 car race to determine the winner, just the way of finding who contests it, and where they start from.

So let's move to the positive.
After the first night in qualifying - who looked good? who's your pick? who's your dark horse?
For as good as Phil Towgood is - I don't think he'll be good enough. It's one thing to fight your way through the guys who didn't make the final from the heats but the likes of McClymont, Williams, Corrin & Others will be long gone out the front by the time he makes it there from the back - unless there are a lot of yellows.
McClymont looked smooth on the rough track as did Corrin. I think they will be hard to beat as they have plently of experience running around the judder bars. McClymonts favorite line of up high is going to be the best line around 3 & 4. Williams looked the goods last night too and has plenty of experience on the BP track.
Well done NutZ for puting Dyer in the mix. he had a good qualifying run and heat and will be there at the pointy end tonight.
It was great to see the 12 Stockcars get out and have fun with each other. very entertaining stuff.
My pick before the night was Williams followed by McClymont & Towgood. Now: McClymont (1), Williams and Corrin (2&3). Dark horse: Dyer.

With this system you spend a lot of time watching 3rd 4th and 5th place racing , cos the top 4 go through. All the drivers know if you get in the top 4 you go through so there are some desperate moves going on to wards the end of the race which makes it interesting.

I also wouldn't count out Neil Head 10M for an outside chance at a podium finish, certainly a top 5 contender.
if my gridding is correct from the heats, the top 34 qualifiers were in this order
74a, 16m, 43, 46m, 97a, 61a, 79m, 18m, 10m, 15m, 42, 13i, 48a, 59a, 21h, 1nz, 29m, 17r, 89m, 75m, 47m, 82m, 28m, 45m, 69m, 14m, 78, 272m, 68, 66, 271m, 98, 24w, 46a

I'm picking the track to have a major influence on who wins this title.
As one driver said to me last night... "When you go to Bay Park you are not their to compete against the other drivers, you are there to compete against the track and the track usually wins!"
I'm not going back tonight after what I saw last night and you all know how much I love Saloons.

The track was a little less than desireable(I overheard a saloon drivers wife calling it "the same old f^%king goat track") but a majority of the drivers still managed some excellent racing. Ill be returning and hopefully they have rectified any issues with the surface, even minutley and hope for alot more fast and close racing. Best of luck to all competitiors and may the best man or woman win
