anyone would think the track treats different cars differently.......
If the nut behind the wheels wants to launch into the same hole lap after lap, they are the one responsible for breaking their ball joints, etc, not the track.

However for the NZ Champs you would expect the track to be in the best condition for the fairest result in a class that should be about drivers, their cars and racing.

The tracks the same for everyone, use what you have. I beleive the Sprintcars dry the track up to much in warmup.

I will remind everyone that Kihikihi put on the worst track in the history of NZ Speedway when Saloons ran the NZ Grand Prix there last season. I don't recall pages of posts criticising the track on that occasion.
Night 2 tracks at Baypark are typically smoother but very dry and dusty. Take a portable shower.

yep youre onto it strx7,not everyone went in the same hole more than once, some just dont learn!yes steeldog 99% of the track was excellent with easily 2 or 3 lane wide racing surface which made for exciting racing that the nz title deserves.well done to the track prep crew.DAVID havent you ever read murrays posts about saloons wheel packing, someone has to do it.

In reply to Percy, and perhaps I am a little biased but there were different factors that caused the issues at Kihikihi.
A fairly new track surface and some drainage issues that were not evident prior to the track reconstruction meant the service was less than desirable. A fair bit of criticism was thrown at Kihikihi at the time, but I think now a little over 12 months on the progress and improvements in the track are there for all to see.
Baypark is a track that has a huge advantage in terms of resources etc over a small club track like Kihikihi. The Baypark track has been down for a lontime now, and has ongoing issues.
At the end of the day you drive to the conditions, but it is unfair to put the kihikihi situation in the same class as a poor track at Baypark.
Just my opinion anyway.

gjd, I take it that you are joking when you say that the track crew did an excellent job as you obviously werent there watching the water truck driver at 4.30pm. Not necessarily his fault when given a 10 tonne truck plus the weight of the water and has to slither and slide around the track and do his best. Certainly not the shane maaka way of preparing a track or how it happens at WP here truck water weight is kept to a minimum on the track. He created what I would call one big trench on the finishing straight that had to be repaired and big ruts on the back straight particularly going into turn three that steeldog was talking about. That was where the damage was occuring to the saloons where they were launching into the air with all 4 wheels of the ground in a number of cases. Yes it is the same for all drivers but it should not be the track that determines the NZ Saloon title which i fear will be the case tonight. The drivers that have been mentioned on this thread all have chances and congratulations to some of the fartherest travellers making the main ( 61a and 13i ). The format is certainly different for NZ titles but will reserve my comments until after tonights racing. No tshirts available which was disappointing ( especially when the nice lady in the souveneir van said "you would think that they would do one for such an event" ). The programme was pretty ordinary but was $4. Perhaps charge a bit more and make it a real souveneir for some of us fans of the big meets. The food was good and the prices reasonable. Lets hope that the track is in better shape tonight and that the drivers get to show their skills ( and stay safe ). Looking forward to it

Very fair post Rick
I'm merely pointing out that many of our posters seem to play favourites, coming down heavily on some tracks whilst turning a blind eye to the indiscretions of other tracks.
I think the Kihikihi track has ended up being a big improvement on the previous facility.

If memory serves me correctly there were so many complaints from the competitors after the first night of the super saloon champs last time at Bay Park that come the finals day they looked as thought they had run a large flat drum roller over the entire surface and it was totally smooth and super slick from the first race of the second night!!!
There's a pretty good chance that they may do the same here and if that happens then Steve Williams definetly had the setup to drive away from everyone last time!!!!
Glad to see that even with a DNF result that the 48 will still have the opportunity to drive his way into the feature, that will be awesome to watch.

It certainly has the potential to be the best speedway venue in NZ. The website has been addressed, perhaps the track will be next

Very fair post Rick I'm merely pointing out that many of our posters seem to play favourites, coming down heavily on some tracks whilst turning a blind eye to the indiscretions of other tracks. I think the Kihikihi track has ended up being a big improvement on the previous facility. I have never been to, nor commented on, the track at KK. I did go to Rotorua and commented on the great track surface at the NI's a couple of days ago. I have praised BP for good tracks in the past. The reality is BP is where I go most regularly and it is what I am most familiar with. the good the bad & the ugly. I will be there tonight. looking forward to it as well. Maybe I'll get out there and put up some road cones for the drivers who didn't learn from last night (tongue in cheek for all those easily offended)

In my experience of spectating at BayPark since Day 1 , the track is either rough & drivey or smooth, slick & dusty & seldom a happy medium. Hard to say what's better. Tough on the drivers & cars when its rough no doubt but what's better to watch- high groove passing (missing the ruts) 2 or sometimes 3 wide or watching a pole line procession thru the dust. I can remember Dean Wadell (81M) saying at Super saloon Champs in Cromwell last year when the track got a little bumpy but very drivey that this is the way we like the track its what we're familiar with at home. I'm picking we'll see a slick track for the final tonight with super saloons & sprint cars on the programme. Anyway as for picking winners I'm afraid I think Twogood is probably out of it now after breakages last night but he didn't even look to have the same pace ( before he came to grief) as the obvious standouts- Corin 46M, Williams 8H, McClymont 1NZ. That's my view, but anything can happen on the night.

Baypark has the best facilities for speedway ive ever seen, and ive been to most tracks ln New Zealand most of the tracks in Aussie and some in America, but its that bit of dirt that you have to race on that stuffs it up. If they could get that right it would be brilliant. You cant compare Kihikihi with it. Kihikihi would have to be in my oplnion the 2nd best run track in the country behind Rotorua, they do an amazing job their being a small club like they are. BayPark track hasnt really changed since the day it opened, darn shame really.
