On Friday night of the NZ GP I saw three children right up against the fence during racing and a Speedway New Zealand official was standing right next to them and even walked around them to check a car out and it wasn't until the Saint Johns people came along that the children were told to move back from the fence I was just wondering who's responsibility it is to make the people in front of the yellow lines to move back behind it during racing.

Security is meant to have a hand in it, whenever they look down at the track and see anyone standing in front of line. otherwise i think its generally the people (if they old enough to know better) that have to move themselves, or the parents of little kids who don't know better.

Where are their parents??? !!!! Russell Harris says numerous times every meeting for people to stand back... the security message prior to racing also says for people to stay behind the yellow line.
This issue drives me nuts!!!
I bet if their kids get hurt, they'll be after compensation!!!

i just thought that it was kinda silly that the speedway NZ official didnt say to them to move and just walked around them ignoring that they were there infront of the yellow line

Good luck to anyone going for compensation. Ive seen the signs across EVERY track I've gone to, its just another way to try to rip the system isn't it?
'Let our child be hit then go spare at SNZ!' wat a stupid idea.

the thing is it really doesn't matter what the signs say it's laws that decide these things in court. It's not the snz officials job to manage the public either , that's down to the venue managment.
snz can only stop the racing if the public is in a dangerous area .
of course my understanding could be up the chute.

And you did what? meaning if I had of seen them I would have asked them nicely to move back and explained why, why would I do that? because if I did not do anything and something happened to them it would be on my conciseness for ever even though its not my job its all about being responsible

I said it, its my opinion so please don't attack me for it

The responsibility unfortunately rests with the Referee and the Clerk of the course, but the law also looks seriously at anyone who knowingly allows anyone else to commit an unsafe act that results in a serious harm incident, like being inside the yellow line and against the fence like the kids you described,so the SNZ Official who stepped around the kids would in the event of an accident be held partly liable and as such could be looking at a maximum of $60000 fine and up to 12 months as a guest of Her Majesty, the Ref and CoC unfortunately face greater amounts. The warnings about the dangers of motorsport etc that are prominately displayed at most venues and sometimes printed on the back of tickets are not worth the cost of the ink and paint they are written with under current NZ Law!!!

Its the same at Bay Park.Children run rampant up and down in front of the grandstands and swing on the metal bark not half a meter from the fence.and then when racing is on they all flock right up to the fence when there is an accident. I cant understand why parents fork out hard earned money for children to waste it running amok. I have said something once before and i got told piss off and not tell their kid what to do and the kid carried on swinging on the fence. Huntlys got it right though, the track side fence and then 1 about 10 to 20 meters back from that.
