The green used on the car is a laser cut holographic chrome with a green over-laminate. Totally non reflective and wont spoil those photo shots at night

I've never really been a Stocky fanatic (always enjoyed watching though!) but watching you put this together from scratch has almost turned me ;D ...almost. Good luck at your first meeting and I hope we'll see some pics.

just out of intrest how much has it cost you to build the car? The materials/parts come to about $24,000. If I added up all the welding/grinding consumables, fuel, toll calls etc it would be a lot more but you can't count that.

Took the car to Stratford today and got green sheeted and had our first practice runs. The straight line speed seems ok but I have a few issues that I need to work through. The brake master cylinder is to close to the exhaust and the brake fluid is boiling so I have to move that over a bit. I will also move it up so that I get a bit more leverage on the pin. The carb has a massive flat spot when you give it some gas which just kills it in the corners so I need to sort that out too. And then theres the handling, the car does nothing put push and push and then push some more. Will need to try and sort that out! The powersteering belt cam off twice but we made a slight adjustment for the last run and it seemed ok. But overall not too bad for the first time on the track I guess except for hitting the wall twice! ;D

Does that include a new motor and all new bits? So, would it be unreasonable to, at the least, double the cost quoted if someone like myself had to pay for all materials, labour costs? I certainly pay for all tolls and consumables etc. Folk are in business and have to cover all costs.

I certainly pay for all tolls and consumables etc. Folk are in business and have to cover all costs. That includes half a motor as I already had the motor left over from the old car so only included the rebuild cost. I guess if you had to build a whole motor plus buy the motor to start with you would add another 4k. I also already had a few other bits such as gearbox, diff, fuel tank, front hubs/brakes etc so probably add another 1k for that. So all up the car would owe me around 29-30k. Dam, no wonder i'm so broke lol.

I think I have sorted out the flat spot problem. The lead from the coil to the dizzy wasn't connected and was only held on by the outer rubber. Something so simple, yet I changed carbys and everything before I found it. I am throwing away the HQ master cylinder and replacing it with a booster/master cylinder from a Laser. This should give me better brakes and the pipes come out the other side so they won't be touching the exhaust manifold anymore so that will hopefully fix the problem of the fluid boiling. Looking good for another practice this Saturday.

To clarify, you think say $30,000. Is that PLUS labour?

To clarify, you think say $30,000. Is that PLUS labour? Yip, around 29-30k. for the materials and work that other people have had to do for me, ie; bellhousing, front beam etc. PLUS labour, consumables etc. I can understand now how a Godrge car or a Kuriger etc can be up around the 60k mark when you take into account all the gear they need to own plus their workshop and profit etc.

and when you hear people complaining about a 30k stockcar with engine refresh then maybe you can see how it can be so high.
