It seems there has been a change from the way things were originally explained as far as teams moving through to night 2 goes. I was informed that it was the 4 group winners transfer across, highest points vs lowest points and 2nd vs 3rd (as has been the case in recent years, especially with the 11 and 13 team formats), but I gather it's now Group A winner vs Group D winner, Group B winner vs Group C winner. While it doesn't necessarily reward the top qualifier overall, it does pit (if they win their groups of course) the #1 seed (last year's winner) against the #4 seed, and #2 vs #3 based on their 2013 performances (or whoever sneaks through ahead of the seeds). Sorry about the confusion, but what I was informed verbally is different from what has ended up in the programme. It may not make any difference of course........
