The fact all 8 cars are the same colour doesn't help either hehe Barry B The colours are a pain in the butt but knowing the layout of the grid you can track what car touched what car. The Ref doesn't have the benefit of replays , especially one's at 1/4 speed which you can watch too if you watch it on youtube watch on youtube

Close 1 eye & squint with the other while remembering all palmy drivers are the spawn of the devil who have the refs in their pocket

Could it be we should be giving credit to 35b for an exceptional bit of race craft - knowing that cars attacking those on the grass would be removed, he was able to give the necessary tap to Joblin putting him into a no win situation where he had no choice but to hit 32b, albiet without full intent?

Ya know, after reading all this stuff, they would have to be minor indiscretions for Barry B to support the Panthers

A one spot relegation? Perhaps. A sending off offence within the first 200 metres of the race with 8 cars jostling for track position? Sorry, you've GOT to be kidding me.......... Barry B WOuld you apply the same logic to the Harwood/Dare incident?

After the Hewson Ellsworth "stopped" hit at the NZ's and the completely different story different camera angles told, i will not judge myself.. and i would hate the job of being a ref looking at this new video. I feel like watching some old teams vids now, where they might cut a corner over a drum to wallop some guy, then both richochet off the track and keep going full noise til they are on the track again ramming into some stopped cars .. good times

opps yes you are on th first one but he was sitting there for quite a while trying to refire and shake the hit off Hence he didnt rejoin the track straight away so never gained an advantage in any form

This is where the reentering rule gets obscured Harwood in my opinion shouldn't have been relegated why? because Dare spun to the infield as well so therefore that car that took you to the infield you can not rejoin behind it because its not sitting on the track its either spinning or driving on the infield. Its a rule that needs looking at and cleaning up also the one where you are taken infield and came flying back on track sometimes those ones cant be helped and also need cleaning up I personally believe that if the car that forces you infield spins out infield also you either 1. can't enter until he has re entered or 2 after say 10 seconds. I know its pedantic giving it a time but grassing a car is a legitimate block and making it pointless by allowing to instantly continue if the attacker (or blocker in this case) spins seems silly. time one would be better cause the first one could get silly he could just sit there and the other driver cant re enter

If the car that takes you infield goes or spins infield as well it should be null and void the car taken to the infield should be allowed to enter from the spot as soon as ... of course if its not into oncoming traffic

Barry B WOuld you apply the same logic to the Harwood/Dare incident? Now I know which incident it was for, I'll have to have another look. I'd guessed (wrongly) in was the Lap 1 smash fest, ad haven't looked at the other one to form an opinion. Not that my opinion counts anyway Let's do it on the terracotta, Barry B

Have another look Barry. 32 had slowed and was already behind the car that forced him over the pole and he attempted to re-entered on the same part of the track, so all good. Joblin then came from out wide and deliberately attacked the right front wheel looking to disable it, also all good, except that the HB car had not fully regained the track, so effectively Joblin was then attacking a car that was NOT in an attacking position or part of the race. You can look at it any way you like, to get the result you want. I say another HB car (35b) pushed 6p into 32b and that 6p couldn't vanish into thin air. You say 6p deliberately attacked 32b's right front wheel without mentioning being knocked off-liine by the 35b, as that doesn't suit your argument. I say one is a result of the other. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. I still say it came from turn 1 jostling which should have resulted in no penalty whatsoever. There was no cheating involved and no damage done. I'd even suggest that if Joblin had of attacked the 32b, he'd of hit it a lot harder than that. To me it looks like he's getting out of the gas. You're a HB fan, I'm certainly no PN fan, so perhaps, just perhaps, I'm viewing it with a more open mind? I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree...... Let's do it on the terracotta, Barry B Don't know about being "jostled" Barry. Couldn't see a car near his rear, but one beside him MAY have tapped his front. All in all wasn't much in it fullstop.

So back to Barrys original thread topic "does the punishment fit the crime?".
After looking at the Joblin incident I would have to say NO. Not dangerous, didn't damage other car, didnt gain places. So whats the problem? "no fuss, no foul" as they say in basketball. I think there are too many people getting too caught up in the letter of the law and taking it all too seriously. Are rules primarily about safety or who wins?
All season we hear "superstocks don't hit blah blah bleat bleat " and so the one chance we get to see them dishing out a bit of mongrel everyone starts getting worried about a wheel being 1/2 an inch on the grass. Surely we don't want to head down the track of cricket where there is computer modeling To check on every tiny measurement and technicality?
Another incident that i don't think has been discussed is Malcolm Ngatai' being sent off the track. Yes his car was dangerous and needed to come off. Yes he probably had a red mist when told to come off. But other than giving it a big bootful in first gear (and a mouthful to the ref) what was the problem? The pace ute was hooning around the grass all night faster than what he did when he pulled off. Yet again it's another blow for the punters who have paid big bucks to come and see the best drivers race. All I am saying is there needs to be consideration given to not ruining the spectacle and atmosphere by getting too pedantic with rules, which I think is what Barrys point was at the start.

I agree 100%, once upon a time minor infractions that didn't have any bearing on the race result were just let slide, maybe a word to the group rep to have a word to the offending driver/s. Then a group of tin foil hat wearers, lead it should be pointed out by a bloke from Nelson who may or may not look a bit like BusterBell (but does really) started banging on about the Panthers were allowed to get away with this and that and awww Rees wasn't moved back the 5 cars lengths he made up under the red flag (despite he was laps ahead and still in front of slow blocking cars) Fast forward a couple of years of these conspiracy theorists constantly banging on about biased refs and this and that and rarrrdee da da da. Then add a newspaper journalist (and I use that term loosely) insisting in the paper that races MUST be stopped to remove offending cars in teams races and you end up with something like we had on Fri night. Now this bloke in Nelson says things have got more complicated than they need to be. GEEEEEZ I repeat what I said earlier... Be very careful what you wish for....You just might get it. I'm not having a go at Craig here, I sometimes quite like the bloke but the whinging and conspiracy's over the years have lead to this.
