No he would'nt want that, and who could blame him. Pete was the one who tossed his toys last year. Pete is a good teams racer, so why should Bruce invite him back. Would you? And even older!!

Peter Rees stated on local radio programme in Palmerston North that he would be going fishing if the Gisborne team was not at the Team Champs It was very interesting listening to Pete on the radio show. He has said previously come teams he will be there with the car, not long after that radio interview he was in talks with another team incase the Giants get declined. Come February 6th i believe Pete will be on that starting grid, its just a matter of what team him and the boys will be in.

Gisborne Gypsies maybe a better team name..... As for Mr Robertson not wanting them there.. hmmm IF the 12 other teams that have shown up year after year are confirmed, who does he leave out?? People need to look at the Robertson/Rees thing a bit more closely before casting judgement. As to Gisborne showing up Palmy, ANY team can show up ANY team, thats the whole freaking point. I dont think Palmy would shy away... Maybe instead of keyboard journalists typing with one eye shut they should fund raise for a one off or best of three, Palmy V Gisborne... Better make it quick, seems Rees has used G for all its worth and its time for him to move on

If Robertson really wanted to stop the Rees teams racing at his event then he would have stopped the Scrappers at last years nationals. I'm sure if a space arises he will bring in the Giants.

As a business man I think Bruce will put things aside for this event more bums on seats equals more revenue basic, end of day comes down to teams confirming participation or maybe the Rees will show up for the Stratford Scrappers food for thought

The place will fill up whether the Rees are there or not though. So if Mr Robertson doesnt want them there he's in the position of power to make that a reality. If they were to race for another club he can simply say no to that also. The stadium will fill with return viewers from previous years. The Rees attendance, as most would agree, would definitely add to the spectacle.
Its just a wait and see game but if he wants to give sides the chance to prepare properly. organise their own fundraising material, travel arrangements, accommodation etc he should really make his decisions sooner rather then later.
Prepared teams that have been given the opportunity to organise themselves, their management, team bodies, media advertising etc ....the list goes on....are surely more likely to add to the event and would arguably be better prepared to perform on the track.

The place will already be a sell out as it is every year. The only thing that can increase is the live streaming possibly. In all honesty though the Giants do deserve a spot in the event IF the promotion are struggling to find 12 other available teams. Auckland I believe are struggling to form a team with only a few cars available, while I have heard there is the possibility that if a Wanganui Warriors team goes ahead it may have a majority of Stockcars making up the team. If this occurs and someone gets hurt because of difference in car speed etc. what consequences and spotlight would it put on the sport and teams racing in general? Is pride/ pig headedness getting in the way of common sence and preventing a team that is ready to race in the event being accepted.

There is scope for extra seating as there was during the rugby world cup. I'm sure I noticed some temporary stands in the back ready to be erected when we were in Palmy on Saturday. I believe the Giants inclusion will most definite bring extra spectator, there is excitement in Gisborne and talk of bringing bus loads of supporters down.

Disagree. People love teams champs no matter what teams are there. I'm sure whether they're there or not the place will still be packed

Yes that is true for the many thousands of us that go year in year out. But do you really think that they could fill buses of Gisbornites if they did not have a provincial team to support?

6 teams now named. add R, W, M and N and that is 10. Seems V, A and H struggling. So if they do not get sides adding G would make 11.
Ideally one of the V, H or A come up with a side and G makes 12.

Sorry meant V H or A come up with side. M will be there along with R W and N, making 10. If only 10 sides eventuate we get less races first night. That would be average

Surely hope it is a 12 team format Highway 45 but maybe 50/50 at this stage by the looks. Considering how some clubs seem to struggle with forming a team year on year you do wonder how much longer the event can continue being what it is. The only clubs over the events history who haven't had trouble fielding teams and have contested the majority or all of the teams champ events since 1981 are Palmerston North, Christchurch, Hawkes Bay, Nelson, Stratford and Rotorua. Since the late '90's the likes of Wellington, Wanganui, Auckland, Huntly, Otago, Bay Park and others have all gone through stages of entering, disappearing, returning and in some cases disappearing again.

It appears that it will be a 12 team event. Auckland apparently have enough cars. The Mount look set to name there team in the next day or two. That leaves either Wanganui or the Giants as the 12th team the way I see it. Giants have there side ready.
