Here is it, the draw for the 2016 ENZED Superstock Teams Champs to be held at Arena Manawatu this coming Saturday and Sunday nights.
After the controversy of the 2015 draw when the Panthers, the Mustangs and the Tigers all drew each other in the same group, the 2016 version has a much more balanced look to it overall although there's still some top Night 1 match-ups; Tigers vs Mustangs to start the night, Wildcats vs Busters next, then later Hawkeyes vs Panthers, Giants vs Wildcats, Busters vs Giants and Warriors vs Team GB all look very even contests on paper. Plus they'll no doubt be some upsets as well. See, that's the thing with random draws, some years line-ups such as last year's Panthers/Mustangs/Tigers group are going to happen, especially after a year of upsets like in 2014 when teams like the Panthers and the Tigers ended up in the non-seeded side of the draw for the following year.
2016 Palmerston North Teams Draw; 6th/7th February (12 Teams) 1 Nelson Tigers vs Manawatu Mustangs 2 Wellington Wildcats vs Baypark Busters 3 Stratford Scrappers vs Wanganui Warriors 4 Hawke's Bay Hawkeyes vs Palmerston North Panthers 5 Rotorua Rebels vs Nelson Tigers 6 Gisborne Giants vs Wellington Wildcats 7 Great Britian Lions vs Stratford Scrappers 8 Canterbury Glen Eagles vs Hawke's Bay Hawkeyes 9 Manawatu Mustangs vs Rotorua Rebels 10 Baypark Busters vs Gisborne Giants 11 Wanganui Warriors vs Great Britain Lions 12 Palmerston North Panthers vs Canterbury Glen Eagles
As in previous seasons, the top 4 teams from last year's event head up one of the 4 groups each, for 2016 they being the Panthers, the Warriors, the Busters (who raced last year as the Brawlers) and the Mustangs. The other 8 teams are randomly drawn underneath them, the number between 5-12 that they draw determining both their group and the race order.
GROUP A Manawatu Mustangs Rotorua Rebels Nelson Tigers
GROUP B Baypark Busters Gisborne Giants Wellington Wildcats
GROUP C Wanganui Warriors Great Britain Lions Stratford Scrappers
GROUP D Palmerston North Panthers Canterbury Glen Eagles Hawke's Bay Hawkeyes
Let the debate commence.........

It was done today, overseen by myself as it has been for quite a number of years now. Even though we no longer have access to LiveSPORT radio where we used to do the draw live on air - and Bruce used to listen in like everybody else to see who was going to race who at his own meeting - it's basically still done exactly the same way now as what it was when I first got involved. We actually did it on the infield at WP a couple of years ago too, but I wasn't available on Sunday night due to being out of Auckland.

I've always wondered how the race draw was done ie how the panthers so often get race 4 and race 12. Not only do they have the home court advantage but they get the biggest break to repair cars between races. ConsistNtly. Interesting draw however

Interesting draw however The four seeded teams always get the first and last races in their groups, and the long break between races. It's the one reward they enjoy for having been in the top four the previous year. If that's something the Panthers get consistently, it's probably because they are consistently in the top four

If semis are A v D and B v C then Giants and Mustangs avoid each other all weekend no matter results. . Unless cars ar win consolation races 2nd night

Interesting draw however The top 4 from one year get the 8 race breaks the next year. The other 8 teams get 4 race breaks. There is no way of making the breaks even for everybody. The previous year's winner always gets races 4 and 12 the following year. The Panthers, as regular winners, do get those two races regularly, yes.

No wonder Keven Roberts pulled out of the Glen Eagles. I 'd probably pull out as well if I was drawn against the Panthers and Hawkeyes!!

Darn it. My two teams in the same group. Well actually I have three teams. Baypark, Gisborne, and any team that races Palmy. Haha.
Negatives - My teams in the same group. Positives - 66.6% chance of one of my teams making it to the semi finals.
