The flag man just tefused to give the race winner the flag for the victory lap. Haha, not sure whats going on but it is so weird they keep changing the results must have some big lap scoring issues.
Racing is getting better though so thats all good

Can they not go over the time limit at all? What are the consequences? Not sure about tonight but there is provision for an addtion al few minutes to finish a championship race started before 10 to 10. At the NZ Super Saloon champs the council threatened to fire the promoter for mutual times of going over time

They have just started the last race AT 10pm. Will be interesting to see the fallout from that!

One thing is for sure , This meeting is living up to all expectations. Dishing up a poorly run meeting with a crap track for a NZ Championship meeting is definately not acceptable. The running of Baypark has gone nowhere .

I was thinking that if you failed to qualify tonight, would you bother to turn up to this shambles tomorrow and risk car damage for no reward.

From a spectator point of view I thought the racing and action was great. The first race with most the field wall riding was awesome.

Didn't see it damage many cars. If damage is not your thing then you shouldn't be racing at a NZ stock car title that's for sure.

The track tore up a heap of gear. Suspension, axles and about 800 tyres.
Yes track is same, for all but that is a cop out and makes the championship a lottery.
Wall riding was the only way to get around the corners for thee first half of the meeting. This may be fun to watch on a club day but not a national champs. I would have thought stockcars would have been one of the easier classes to prep for.
GOOD TO SEE GRADERS ETC OUT THERE TRYING TO REPAIR THE TRACK AS WE LEFT TONIGHT. Hopefully better tomorrow.

It was a game of three thirds. 1st heats the track was slop. 2nd heats the track fell to bits due to everyone having to run high to avoid the slop, and then the track became raceable and then bugger all knew who to hit, or how many points they were off the pace because there were no reliable points. There was alot of wrecked gear that wasn't hit damage.

You could have cut and paste that exact same post from the first time this event was held at the same venue. Lets just hope we get a very deserved winner like we did that time.

I am hoping it is alot better tomorrow on soo many levels.
Only positive, the race schedule was completed and that was looking very dodgy until late in the night.

The track was just not prepared properly the huge hole in turn 3/4 was just dry loose material clearly they hadn't got water down into track . Just drown the top surface with fingers crossed it soak in ?..

or maybe it was dry, loose material because the cars had removed the clay down to the base course. Just saying. I feel we're at risk of another deluge of unsolicited track prep advice....

My thoughts on night one. The track was in a terrible state the first round of heats. That first heat was really heart in the mouth watching as they all barrelled into turn 3/4 and all slammed the wall. Also, about race 4 there was an almighty pileup as drivers couldn't get slowed down and just kept slamming into the stionary cars. That was hard to watch. I think race 5 there was a really nast T-Bone under red.
Something that i thought was really dissapointing was just how sludgy the inside 2/3rds of the track were early on. Cars were spinning down into the sludge and getting bogged down. This caused some to DNF. You should never get a DNF from a gentle spin to the inside of the track. Really felt for those guys having their whole weekend undone by that.
Something that surprised me was just how many cars didn't come out for their heat 2 and 3. It sort of feels like gone are the days where if you DNF in the first heat you'll go out and try help your trackmates qualify. The heat 3s were all very tame affiars. However this was probably a combination of drivers not knowing points, decent points on offer just for finishing (due to so many non starters) and the chance to get into the repecharge.
Dont think I'll be able to make it along tonight but very happy to see 6 Rotorua cars qualify so far. 9r Sheldon Arapere (sp?) looked good. As did 513r. 2nz will be hard to beat though. 6v Mooney also looked really good after a shaky start getting caught up in the big pileup in heat 1.
Good luck to all the Rotorua drivers!!

The last 6 races were run in a little over an hour. Not many red flag stoppages, pretty single file driving.
