The June edition of NZ Dirt Track Racing magazine is in stores now and features a picture I took as a big A3 size poster in the middle of Bill Napier's famous DENCO Sidecar at this years Sidecar Have A Go Day at Harrisville. I'm pretty wrapt, first time my pic has made the poster, and I think its the first time in NZDTR history to have had a Sidecar as a poster. I will find out more about the NZ made V1000 DENCO engine, I think it was the forerunner to the famous Britten motorcycle engine. The magazine is full of mean pictures and write ups, support your local businesses and grab a copy.

Good work GS. As professional and slick as the modern day full fearing sidecars look, I do miss the old basic Ray Cook style bike, with no flash bits... I'm sure they sounded better when the British bikes were still competitive as well. Mordi macgor.proboards.com/thread/37478/rip-bryce-townsend

Dip etc all on British bikes was cool. One thing that has always bugged me is what ever happened to the all aluminium framed bike powered by a lavertta engine that was built in palmy but never raced by Barry jagger

craige I dunno what happened to that bike, prob a dust collector in a shed somewhere. You forgot the legends Brat & Nod lol. Many many years ago Ian Abrahams took a great pic of Baz Fox prob with Mud on the back (that's how long ago it was) coming off turn 4 at palmy with both hands on the throttle. I'm sure you can remember seeing that great sight many times.

Ramjam craigeBrats Godden is part of the private Sergent Speedway Collection in Palmerston North. I played with and up with Brat and won the Senior 3rd Championship twice at Bunnythorpe RFC before I played Senior rugby with Feilding Old Boys. GC. Lots of the bike guys and sidecar racers followed Bunnythorpe rugby, or played like Willy Scia Scia. Great times. Dave Hunter "Gangs" crashed his Norton Commando the night they put the S bend on the Bunnythorpe Road to Feilding, he was a good bugger too. For Gangs:

One thing that has always bugged me is what ever happened to the all aluminium framed bike powered by a lavertta engine that was built in palmy but never raced by Barry jagger That alluminium chair, last I heard about it was almost 20 years ago when a guy in Auckland (can't recall his name) ran it weekly up there & his swinger, young Leroy Berett from Palmy north (actually Longburn) would fly to Auckland each week. Leroy was a natural, athough he did have a few 'off's', no fear with that boy. I suspect the bike is still with that owner. Speaking of 'no-fear', (this is probably useless info) as a kid growing up there where a lot of blokes around that I would call reaonably fearless, but a guy that I knew to be completely free of any fear was Dip (Terry Robertson) RIP, I new him from about age 10. He could jump on a bike and as if the accelorator didn't have any adjustment, only on full or off when you turn it off. I jumped on the back of a trial bike with him one time, shat myself of course, we were on a mission to get an eel up the Whanganui river, he ditched the bike, pulled a knife he had from his back pocket, jumped in the river and within a minute or so had his knife plunged into the biggest eel I ever saw, I still can't believe I saw that. Bloody funny too, but didn't get on too well with his younger brother.
