Wellington has just put this on there facebook page as a update
COVID UPDATE TEAMS CHAMPS With the awesome news of Level 1 from Mid night last night the team are stoked to be able to still bring you the Capital Pools & Spas NZ Stockcar Teams Championships this weekend. After consultation with our only Auckland based team and Speedway New Zealand we thought it important to share the measures that will be put in place to ensure everyone’s safety at this event. The Auckland team can travel under Level 2 restrictions but this brings with them their Level 2 status. To ensure this at the Speedway the Auckland Alley Cat team and crew will be segregated from the rest of the drivers, crew and general public. We have a separate fenced area of our pit with their own viewing platform away from all other groups of people at the arena. All interactions with any of the officials and club members will be under taken contactless and not with the rest of the group to ensure that all possible steps are taken to keep all safe during this event. For all other public and fans that are from the Auckland region we ask that you heed the Government warning and not attend the event. While we know this will be disappointing our friends at The Pits TV will be casting an awesome stream so you won’t miss out on the action. For those who have pre-purchased tickets online from Auckland area please email info@wellingtonspeedway.co.nz to receive a full refund of your tickets and associated fees. While this is not an ideal situation for our few Auckland friends we appreciate your understanding in these crazy COVID times. For those areas at Level 1 and attending this weekend please remember as always: *If you feel unwell, stay at home. Call Healthline or your health professional for advice on getting a COVID-19 test and where you can get a test from. *Use the NZ COVID Tracer App to check in to every business or place you go to, and on all Public Transport between now and the event. *Turn on Bluetooth Tracing in the NZ COVID Tracer App. *Keep your phone close to make signing into places easy and ensure your Bluetooth Tracing is keeping an anonymous record of other phones you come in close contact with. *Practice good hygiene by washing or sanitising your hands regularly

I'd better get a job on the spanners for the Auckland Alleycats, ha! Barry B

It's all very well putting out this statement today, but perhaps this should have been thought about last night.
Anyone who was considering flying down to Wellington and back for the meeting is unable to get a refund or credit on their airfare, as the event is still going ahead.

I know the wellington clubs hands were probably tied and they had to do this, more to be seen to be doing the right thing than for any actual benefit. Think about it. It's the illusion of safety. I take it no member of this auckland team or their crew or support vehicles will stop anywhere for fuel, food, toilet, parts or any such thing from the time they leave Auckland till the time they return? I take it they will be towing home after night one and returning on night two, as surely they can't stay in local accommodation that will be cleaned and serviced by local cleaners. They definitely wouldn't be able to use any local workshops, as most teams would on a weekend like this. They most certainly won't be able to eat anywhere that there might be non auckland folk. I guess they could bring their own BBQ but they will have to bring all the supplies for it as they can't visit local supermarkets etc etc etc. Does all that sound stupid or does locking them away while they are at the speedway in the interest of optics and the illusion of safety sound stupid? Ohhh BTW, I hope none of them (or anyone for that matter, but particularly the akl team) gets any kind of injury over the weekend, cause it's gunna take a long time for an Auckland ambulance to get here to treat them. Why has NZ got so scared that we feel the need to be looked after to such extremes? Why is their no critical thought applied to any decision? I had an outpatient appointment at the hosp yesterday and it was like the Salem Witch Trial trying to get into the place with several questions being asked, all of which relied on my honesty to answer. Again the illusion of safety.

I am now picking Auckland for an easy win in the event for the following reasons.. 1 meter gap at all times No contact with anyone outside your bubble. In plain terms any car making contact with an Auckland car is breaching Auckland covid rules and must be excluded and then put in managed isolation.. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
