So tonight before the modified pole shuffle, the orange lights are still on, tow truck is on the track, and they are driving at race pace...race cancelled, and all drivers disqualified 😂😂😂

Bizarre night all round, but some great racing in there too
Sending youth mini stocks out on a soaking track was ridiculous, eventually sanity prevailed and we got a start half an hour after scheduled start
55 mins to complete the Mod feature through extraordinary circumstances, and the majority of the top guys falling by the wayside
Drivers swapping cars all night, had thought Taylor was looking stale in his Gordge Super, he looked great in a stealth
What a driver Ward is, had Ngatai covered for pace all weekend and they swap cars and he beats him in that car as well, and at the end of the race tubes Berry and stuffs his car so he let him drive his in the last

Definately good to seeing a wee bit of biff, pity the stockcars are so tame.
I did think a couple of streetstocks taken off was a bit poos... only ones actually making contact 🤷
On another note.. why does it take so long to get out of the carpark to the holiday park road? How hard would be to have a traffic control there? Once past the holiday park it wasn't too bad, until a few decided to overtake and then push in.

What a great nights racing really enjoyed all the grades and a ramp derby to finish The new lights ......what a difference ,I would say one of the best track lighting in the country now
Ward sure is a class act and a pleasure to watch along with Zac West who has been super quick in the last 4 or5 meetings and his lap times are right up there with ward and Malcolm,,certainty is a class that is building nicely with a lot of top stockcar talent moving up to the supers next season according to the commentary team

They mentioned Thian has already got a Superstock sitting in Christchurch, but wasn’t out this weekend as he sold his stockcar up in the North Island but with ferry issues hasn’t been able to get his seat back down here

If Lennon,Thian and who knows about Sweeting all have superstocks the Crushers stockcar team may be totally different looking next season

The story has changed a bit..
It was a piece of the diff, not the engine... So the mother complaining about the height of the fence.. Hmm It was ok before the incident. 🤔

I don't think it's emotive or sensationalist reporting at all. Completely factual, other than it sounds more as if the metal object came through the fence and not over it (based on that they were sitting in row 1 and row 2, close to the fence, and that it hit the first person in the chest......unless of course they were lying down) but then the mother may be absolutely convinced that it did come over the fence. An unusual situation these days, and thankfully everybody is relatively okay. Would give any mum a huge fright. Barry B

I suppose the bits I took out of it that made it seemed emotive was using quotes like "... lips were deathly grey" and "... still feels the effects of that devastating night". As anyone who has dealt with media enquiries knows, the best bits will always get cherry picked out of your media statement/interview! :-)
And yes thankfully anything getting through/over the fence is far less common these days. I was standing Turn 1 at Rotorua a few years watching Scott Joblins wheel come hurtling down the track towards us (the alloy hub drama!) and that wasn't a pleasant feeling - and unfortunately that clobbered someone when it came over the fence.

I was standing Turn 1 at Rotorua a few years watching Scott Joblins wheel come hurtling down the track towards us (the alloy hub drama!) and that wasn't a pleasant feeling - and unfortunately that clobbered someone when it came over the fence. At no point did the mum, or the reporter get into blaming the drivers, the track, or speedway itself as a sport, for the accident. That made a pleasant change. I must admit, 99% of my 25-30-odd years on the infield (10 years as a photographer and then on the roving mic) I felt safer out there than in the stands at some tracks, because most loose projectiles fly outwards. An unconscious Roydon Collingwood powering across the Rotorua infield at full throttle towards me was a different matter however. I don't think he was quite as close to me as I first thought, however if I'd stepped rapidly left (straight into his path) instead of rapidly right (in my mind it was a 50/50 call with about 1 second to decide) I wouldn't be typing this today. Luckily nobody else was in his path, and all ended well including for the two unconscious drivers on track (Collingwood at one end and Steve Hampton at the other). Barry B
