Geez you talk some dribble tank11. Where was it i was claiming to be a victim? I asked others opinions on if they have noticed a change in atmosphere over the last few years, i dont feel like a victim at all. Ill shout you a beer if you show up to the teams buddy, it may loosen you up a little. Sensitive crowd this lot… Your very first line. "Has anyone else noticed how the atmosphere of having a few beers and banter is frowned upon these days at the teams champs?" Your words, not mine. You are claiming to be a victim, as others "frown upon" you, after having a few beers (later it's only a "couple") LOL. Oh, thanks for the offer of a beer (or 2), but I hardly drink outside private homes.

Ill shout you a beer if you show up to the teams buddy, it may loosen you up a little. Sensitive crowd this lot… You may not be claiming to be a victim, but I feel you were hoping to justify your behaviour with some support from others. It must be obvious the majority of us sensitive people who actually enjoy Palmy Teams for the racing would prefer not to put up with people who require alcohol to enjoy themselves. The last thing that needs to happen is turning this event into something similar to the Rugby Sevens where the rugby was a side attraction to the antics of the crowd and true fans stayed away. Try going and not having a drink for a few hours, its not hard, and as the majority do, enjoy the spectacle of teams racing for what it is. Consider others before you inflict yourself on them and spoil their enjoyment. Well said Graemeh, Speedway is family entertainment which can be spoilt for many by the few who find it necessary to be selfish, self-centered people who have have to indulge in alcohol. I'd welcome it if the venue were to become alcohol intolerant. The problem doesn't seem to exist for those who drink non alcoholic beverages at the event, it's only the booze brigade presenting the inappropriate behaviour.

I've just tightened up the board settings so guests can't post.
Why a small group of alcoholics feel the need to ruin the weekend for speedway fans I'm not sure. One would have thought the on track entertainment was more than sufficient to enjoy oneself.

We came across some pissed idiots hanging around the ladies toilet while making our way out of the venue after 240s. The muppets claimed to be security and asked us if we "need a leak or something" as we walked past... Put my mother off going to the toilet and made us all a bit uncomfortable. These self-centered, obnoxious piss heads wasting oxygen and space at what is supposed to be a family show piss me right off!

Ok guys you win, i will agree to disagree This whole thing has been blown way out of proportion and i will leave it as it is. I mention the words “ having a few/couple of drinks” and everyone loses their mind thinking i am this raging pisshead who abuses people and is out to wreck everyones night etc etc. Just a group of guys having a few beers and enjoying some racing.. end of story - No more, no less. Far out you keyboard warriors know how to twist a story.

Every year have had some good banter with people.( other drinkers or sober peeps) Never had an issue with drunken people otherwise would have sorted that out. Not sure where the drunken trouble makers hang out. Oh...... maybe its me?!

We seem to manage sinking a few beers and so far, not upset anyone. Always a good amount of banter between clubs, and always in the name of having a laugh. Not all beer drinkers are trouble, so please don’t jump on this woke bandwagon NZ has come to embrace.

One could argue the atmosphere is enhanced by the drinkers/partiers. What’s the difference between palmy and Auckland teams? The race is the same, Auckland’s often packed out but what makes the atmosphere superior at palmy? Those who have come to let their hair down and get a little loose. There will always be serious spectators with their points sheets and psychoanalysis of what happens on track but they don’t create atmosphere. It’s the ones who are yahooing, dressing up, ringing cowbells, waving flags, talking nuts with those around them, hosting tipping contests and betting on races that create the atmosphere. If everyone sat quietly it wouldn’t be the event that it has become

Looking from another perspective as a elderly gentlemen thats been to more shows than Bonnie and Clyde ,you sit thinking was that me several years ago making a fool of myself ,trying to put on a act ,to impress the fans ,public alike ,the dreaded drink certainly can bring the attention to others more so than you think . Not to say you cant have a good time ,but in a little more moderation especially in the main grandstand ,people pay good money to sit and watch a show ,not a bunch of hooligans ,swearing abuse at each other ,pissed to beat the band ,then turn around and say gosh i enjoyed the teams racing .yeah right you fell a sleep against your m8 half way through the night ,or got chucked out by the security staff ..

It got pretty wild for a few years where I was genuinely concerned for my safety and those around/with me to the point of keeping surveilance and forming protection and escape plans. Most of the trouble makers were well intoxicated even before lunch. The event has evolved over the years and with the advent of ticket seating the gathering of regional tribes is no longer a thing and has eliminated uncontrolled banter. Alcohol abuse has alway been a problem and has always been ignored in favor of enormous revenue. It varies from year to year but will always be a issue while the event is not alcohol free.

Make it alcohol free and watch it suffer the same fate as the Wellington 7s. Illogical conclusion there mudman, too much mud blurring your vision there! How ridiculous to suggest that the only reason teams champs survives is because of access to booze! So insignificant is the minority of drinkers at this event that I hold firm to the opinion alcohol should be banned altogether Keep your alcoholism at home, surely for a few hours you can stay dry can't you??? A lot of smokers manage to control themselves, why can't the boozers?

I'm a big fan of teams racing and it hypes me up to the max so no alcohol needed for me to enjoy it. The last thing I would do as someone who loves speedway for the racing is intentionally make myself temporarily dopey.

I stopped going 6 years ago because of alcohol abuse toward me and other female friends, year after year, just had enough defending ourselves, as a regular attendee to Palmy this is one show I don,t mind missing, I wouldn,t be surprised if the majority of the drunkards, are attending their one and only speedway event of the season, that is their right, but don,t spoilt it for the true speedway fans that are there for the racing. .

Only problem is that these days they will only sell sugar free coke, sprite and powerade at the venue, so need to watch your blood sugar levels. :-)
