Hindsight is good, least they started early. 8-9pm was the time I was expecting rain and it arrived earlier.
But yeah. Given it was overcast all day, potentially earlier start than 5pm may have been considered. But teams also need time to work on cars during the day.
I just read 971c was very damaged and likely sitting out final due to repairs done quickly, so that’s a blessing for them this extra time.
Maybe since chch got 165 points to palmys 155 points in semi, trophy goes to them 😎

I see two options. They both share the throphy. Or a home and away teams race. So 4 team races. Highest total wins. A one off race tomorrow is meaningless and pointless How is a 1 off final tommorow meaningless and pointless? As opposed to a 1 off final tonight? Run it at midday, offer some big money consolation races and you’ll get majority of crowd back.

I remember early 2000s there heading back Sunday morning for a baypark vs palmy final, then few years later remember palmy vs welly I think, Scotty miers tan like a demon and hit everything out of his way to get to the line, including his own team mate demanser when he revered in front of him😳.

And this folks is why you always need a wide wheel support class. 10 saloons or Mods having a race and that track be good to go by now. But the promotion doesn't like non contact classes.

Should of started earlier if they knew the rain was coming, you can wheel pack all night but if the rain doesn't stop your wasting your time, very disappointing from the Palmerston North Speedway promotion 🙁

Hopefully they put the race online for free for those that have to travel home tomorrow
Always thought it was a balls up chucking tier 2 on before tier 1 of you are running short on time

And you can't just shut the pit gate when you've already taken a butcher's knife to the gap between races. Although they tried to on Team GB, until team manager Peter Falding re-opened it himself Barry B

I know it probably gets anti climatic if the final is run before 5 v 6 and 3 v 4 etc, but you at least have the higher chance of leaving the arena with everyone knowing a winner Was interesting when they went to grid up the first time, Boulton was waving the Eagles out there saying let’s go, Miers had a word with the officials and a stop was put to it to bring the consolations out. It was always looking at that point if they didn’t go then, they wouldn’t go at all

Can anyone fill in what happens if tomorrow is rained off too, I’d assume chafed trophy, or would the Eagles take it as the highest placed qualifier ?

2pm is awfully late for one race when at a guess 3/4 of the patrons were from out of town. 10am would’ve been good, then a lot of people can make it home at a reasonable hour.
Racing tonight was good, don’t feel like I’m missing out by not seeing tomorrow race.

At the end of the day, after the rain affected season we have had all over Nz, it would have been a big risk for people not to plan to spend the majority of Monday still in palmy potentially watching entire finals night or part of it.
But each to their own.

It was always looking at that point if they didn’t go then, they wouldn’t go at all Ah, sorry, I see what you mean. Yes, it'd be a bit like going to see a band who played their encore first so those that only enjoyed their main 2 or 3 chart hits could go home early, while the hardcore fans stayed until the bitter end. It really just doesn't work. In retrospect they should have started even earlier. Others have said the rain arrived early, but with bad weather wouldn't you build in a safety margin of an hour or two? I never studied the rain radar myself, but it did seem a little weird to start early due to impending weather, but only start the parade 90 minutes earlier than originally planned? I don't know how many races were on the original schedule for tonight, but I'd hazard a guess and say maybe twice as many as what actually raced? Plus the many presentations, including "The Spike" and the new "Rookie of the Team Champs" trophy. Even starting an EXTRA HOUR earlier (racing @ 4pm) they would have still had a problem unless the plan was always to cut races as well? Unlikely I imagine. Daytime racing isn't as attractive as under lights, we all know that, but if weather was on the way any racing held was always going to be under overcast conditions anyway. It's not the first time it's happened at the Teams Champs, and it won't be the last. It's impossible to beat the weather. And fans got more racing in that any meeting up this neck of the woods recently. It's been a shocker of a summer. Barry B

Will go back to that Eagles v Kings semi, the hit on 971c from 1NZ was huge and after the red light, then a few laps later 1NZ went off with a C car at the beginning of the straight, continued on and re entered the track 100m down the track and took 991c out a lap of so later. That hit on Ward you could see how late it was with how far back he was put after the red light while Ward stayed in his spot
