I see the North Island Sprintcar Champs was going to be at the Springs as well,i would say that will be at Waikaraka at some stage as well, they should do it at the John Webster meeting.

From Springs Facebook page.
📢 STADIUM UPDATE 📢 Last week we had a meeting with our stadium landlords Auckland Unlimited to discuss progress on the stadium reinstatement. To dispel any inaccurate rumours and to bring everyone up to speed as best as possible at this time, we can confirm the following: 📌 We are working with Auckland Unlimited to set an accurate date for stadium repairs to be completed and to offer our input into this process 📌 The major infrastructure problems in the stadium centre around the main power supply and some instability to the concrete block perimeter fence running across the top of the upper terraces 📌 A more detailed scope of works is due for completion and release by the end of June 📌 We will almost certainly have a delayed start to the racing season at Western Springs 📌 At no point has there been any discussion about Speedway not returning to Western Springs 📌 The date of 17/02/24 marked on the Waikaraka calendar is the date approved by SNZ for the NZ Sprintcar Championship at Western Springs not at Waikaraka 📌 In late July we will be hosting a Mid-Winter Christmas Party and Prize-Giving event for all competitors, sponsors, officials and supporters. This will get everyone together and keep you all updated on progress for next season (details to follow) In the meantime keep warm and stay positive as we work towards getting the 2023/24 Speedway season together. Cheers John

I think some people just jumped on band wagon way too early. saw post on facebook in regard to shift of NZ Sprintcar champs. was only contingency plan at the time if springs were unable to race at all 2023/24 season. by looks of it isnt the case, just means these titles still be at the springs. just litle change in dates for them. i think about 4 titles for the season. look forward seeing which dates are available to them. not change in venues lol

Wondering what the SNZ rules are re shifting allocated titles to different tracks (even with same promoter). If it is not a done thing, does the next track in the rotation system get it?

SNZ let western springs do it at Waikaraka in the season just run with the North Island Midget Title - so I believe this may have already set the scene for future unless people kick up a fuss. Bring on Waikaraka Springs for the NZ Sprintcar Champs over a single night with no to limited meetings for sprintcars there

As you say, last year may have set a precedent. Not sure if this was a one off or a fix until WS gets up and running again if it ever does? One off yes, for multiple championships and possibly seasons, not sure I agree with that. I have not looked into how many SNZ events WS had for this coming season, but normally have a few being an open wheel track.

Not entirely sure with rotation system of nz titles go. if springs are unnable race then surely should go Cromwell, then if springs able to continue following season. depending on when able start racing for 2023-24 season. then move nz title forward and give it to springs following season.
Far i've read both NZ and North islands are at WS along with Midget gp and TQs north islands.

Multiple classes and events I am not to sure it should happen. do the events get handed back as a track that can not run the event?

I suspect there are none, the promotor is probably free to run the event where he likes assuming facilities etc meet the required standard.

Why did Nelson have to forfeit running nz title. means only 1 track south island able to host nz midget car title. when you look at previous clubs and track hosted the title, both Huntly and Nelson now non entities far nz title goes.

I'll put this here. From Hayden Guptill Facebook page.
All the best for Hayden's off season.
As some may know, since my 2019 crash at Western Springs I have been experiencing a large amount of upper back pain every day since. More recently, I spent a large amount of last season off due to a concussion. These two accidents, plus the big crash in January of this year have led me to make a decision to take one year off racing to give my brain and body a chance to heal without any further injury.
I want to thank the BSL Racing Team, Bill Buckley, and Calvin Worthington for their caring and understanding of this decision. It's been arguably the hardest decision I've made in my life but those close to me understand the pain that I experience every day and it has decreased my quality of life significantly. I have every intention of returning to racing with the BSL Racing Team next year, but I feel this will be a positive move for both my racing career and my general life enjoyment.
Thank you to everyone who has played a part in my racing career so far. It has been 16 years straight of racing various classes and I assume that it's going to be a very challenging year of not racing but I'm hoping this is the right move and I can get on top of everything so I can be back at my best next season.
All the best to everyone who is racing this year and I hope your pre-season preparations are going well! In particular, I'm looking forward to watching the development of youngsters Mitch Fabish and Alec Insley this year in the midget class. I'm also wishing the best of luck to the BSL Racing Team this year! The team has been consistently developing and showing plenty of pace and I wish them all the best for success this year, and hopefully, I can join them again in 2024/25.
- Hayden

I see on Palmy calender International meeting to be confirmed for Christmas and new year break .. hope there plenty of tyres around for that time.
Be interesting to see how many cars go. Big week of racing plus an added cost in Hotels for most the competitors or top guys as most are Auckland based
Not sure its a good idea running a hole international program in Palmy maybe 2 day show and that be enough ??

Was a bit late getting my July issue of Nz Dirttrack racing magazine this month.
Great read on Western Springs after the flood.
Puts ones mind at ease on a return to Western Springs be it maybe a late start to the season. John McCallum sounds determined to get us back there. As do landlords Auckland Unlimited.
Bring on the season. Can't wait 🍻

I for one would be interested in seeing the international midgets in palmy. They can definitely put on a cracker race there when they want to.
