I suppose you can say at least they have started working on the Stadium 🙄 Better late than never. But from experience nothing is fast with Auckland Council.

Took me over 8 months to get a permit for a second toilet to be approved to get installed in our house--so yes the council have their own time schedule... Pesonally i think this is the excuse to remove speedway from the springs. If they can fast track the rebuild at wacky park it MAY give us some certainty looking forward Fingers crossed

The only thing that is not slow is the TAX department ,and your new increased rates bill Even the farm dogs leave there trade mark on the councilors car ,his fancy new mags down the country store in protest a hundred dollars per working dog ,and a new plastic tag ...

sad to say but work on western springs speedway isnt exactly high on Councils list so this much delay aint really suprising. when theres so many houses affected, or yellow stickered. 7 months of waiting get any work done aint much of suprise at all. big question remains will we see any racing at all? at this point gotta say it's highly unlikely.

Any update on the state of Western Springs? Heard nothing. Might have to do a drive by for a look. If Waikaraka Park goes ahead this weekend might have to ask John. Good to see they are keeping the fans informed a. Without us be no income.

Word is that they are definitely running in February, likely with generators powering the lights etc but come march lease is over and possibly for good. Let’s hope that is not the case. The whole open wheel scene has definitely been a bit flat this season without the springs especially for the midgets at least.

Have you not travelled : Baypark , Kihikihi etc Bit hard for any other track to replicate 94 years of history plus long running prestigious, well paying events and national TV coverage in the heart of NZ's biggest city. Could be argued the place is a historically significant place in NZ history, heritage and all that. We protect buildings, bridges, rocks, anything with historical significance. Why not a speedway/music venue? It would be strange, and sad if the council chose to let a place sit empty, rotting away and becoming run down, with no use for the community other than the occasional concert. Choosing to create a white elephant.

Referring to the normal buzz of excitement for the open wheel classes, no track will ever compare to the spring’s atmosphere of fans and the competitors will to win there. Kihikihi and baypark has been super exciting and impressive to watch this season which will continue to improve also but as KD said you can’t replace 94 years of heritage. The drivers and fans need the donuts on the infield, the interviews to follow, the podium photos, the big screen and the spray of champagne.

I notice That 2 American Sprintcar drivers based in Christchurch travelling up to the springs for national title. wish them luck will be hard ask given they havent done any laps on the track.
wonder if Connor Rangi will make the trip usually doesnt race out of South Island. he's one the top racers down south.. Hopefully one time see him racing up north.

I see Connor Rangi beat both the Americans Sprint car drivers at Nelson last night. The track must have been not to bad,12.3 second laps at the start of the night and 13.5 second ones at the end.For Connor not going to the North it would be a financial one.But i hope he can manage to make the NZ title.
