Not many from mount are going to be there. this because of travels or just not wanting race at Waikaraka park. Also is live streaming tonight of $30 It's free on facebook lol... poor racing pretty 1 lane . I have been informed that if you are not registered to the series you can't race unless it's your home track and obviously not many A cars and there a 2 tier payment plan 1 for series cars that's not bad but non series car wins only gets 1/4 of prize because they not in series

with it being Western Springs at Waikaraka Park I thought maybe it was being run like Western Springs but seems was just the Springs classes, commentator and prices. The program was pathetic, thought would have had the WS one not the crappy WP one.
car count was terrible.

I take it $30 cost of last nights meeting was overpriced ?
Looking at amount of finishes in feature races from my laps. was only 5 tqs F2s had 9 Sprintcars 8 and Midgets 13.
Be interested with so many racers opting not to run waikaraka park. how much have actually signed up run Midas Midgets and Sprintcar series. doesnt appear be great given small numbers appeared be at Waikaraka park.
Not good look for series with good prize money.

It be interesting to see a full list of each series of cars.
If the next meeting has similar car count and then Baypark has double it the next day or so , I think that will answer the question of whether the Open wheel guys want to go to Waikaraka park or not..
I'd say it's a no we don't want to go.
As for the show. I was pleased I watched for free on Facebook and didn't pay 30 for the $10 stream, racing was very average, with low car count it doesn't make for good racing

North Island Sprintcars - Western Springs: TBC New Zealand Sprintcars - Western Springs: TBC Midget Grand Prix - Western Springs: TBCThe latest calendar on the Western Springs Facebook page has the two February events pushed out by one week (now 17 Feb, and 23/24 Feb). So it could be they are just needing to approve the tweaked dates.

Bruce commented on the Springs Facebook page "we are back at the Springs mid February for the North Island Sprintcars and then the following Friday and Saturday for the NZ Sprintcar Championship Speedway meetings."
So would seem Springs schedule is 'on track' (pun!).
Thought it was interesting that the SNZ championship North Island TQ title was run at Waikaraka, when the rotation and championship eligibility clearly state Western Springs, sets an interesting precedent. Would imagine there's some flexibility provided due to the current circumstances but interesting anyway and opens the door to Waikaraka NZ Sprintcars if Springs isnt up and running.

Let’s all hope it will not be at Waikaraka Park. The NZ title should only be at tracks they are contracted too and eligible to run through the SNZ system. No driver wants it at waikaraka or any other track that has not enough width to allow for good racing.

this really screws up a lot of things
So many people make plans around the published speedway calendars. I know a number of South Island teams have already ferries and accommodation booked. Heard some are thinking if have to cancel ferries etc will not bother.
If the NZ Sprintcar Champs are moved to 23/24th Feb I will have to forfeit booked holiday with friends to Queenstown.

No driver wants it at waikaraka or any other track that has not enough width to allow for good racing. Not only is Waikaraka the longest SNZ track in the country around the pole line, it is also wider than the Springs. Go and take a close look at the exit to turn 2 at Western Springs and see how the concrete wall angles in towards the pole line, narrows the back straight considerably.

if Waikaraka park is such good track in length and width. why do so many drivers choose not race there ? some of the numbers over the years open wheel racing have been diabolical. like 5 sprintcars turning up last season.
Does have good clay surface and never appears be Dust bowl.

Rather than having so many flat tracks New Zealand shame we dont have much way of banking. some of the tracks overseas are even smaller have more banking which makes some good passing manouveres. Drivers from America do struggle on tight tracks because of lack of banking.
which is why am suprised that 2 Americans who racing South Island coming up the springs for NZ Champs. dont try do meeting here get used what is narrower track than Ruapuna.

Rather than having so many flat tracks New Zealand shame we dont have much way of banking........ Purely a numbers game. Most NZ tracks cater to a range of classes but are set up primarily for the Stockcar sections. There's 200+ entries for NZ Stockies and 120+ for Supers, when you have that sort of domination in the car count you get to call the shots on the type of track shape and surface.

Western springs is definitely to narrow also but it does have good width in the corners and it flows very well unlike the strange shape of waikaraka. Waikaraka would have one of the best surfaces in the country consistently. The problem is the shape.

From Craig Lord's Auckland Council Watchdog.( Facebook)
Not confirmed by Springs Speedway. I hope is wrong !!
WESTERN SPRINGS SPEEDWAY IS DONE
Another piece of Aucklands history and character has been ripped away from its residents.
Rumours have been swirling about the status of the iconic venue, but I have had it confirmed from a contact inside Auckland Council.
March 2024 will be the last ever run.
