It’s done at this stage council thinks it can make more money running park themselves. Far from the truth We need to show councils they are wrong

From Craig Lord's Auckland Council Watchdog.( Facebook) Not confirmed by Springs Speedway. I hope is wrong !! WESTERN SPRINGS SPEEDWAY IS DONE Another piece of Aucklands history and character has been ripped away from its residents. Rumours have been swirling about the status of the iconic venue, but I have had it confirmed from a contact inside Auckland Council. March 2024 will be the last ever run. Seems weird that they would put money into it now to run this season after the flooding, just to mothball it in March.

Its all just speculation right now. would imagine not until it's officially listed. then fight to remain will carry on. if so called rumour mills are true. whats springs gonna be turned into.. because notion of turning into Cricket and concert venue. was put on hold after what was gonna cost Auckland Ratepayers . if speedway goes just leaves western Springs stadium as nothing but "white Elephant "
with that just like wish all of Macgors Merry Christmas and happy new year.

With the new Govt going to remove the Auck roading sales tax on fuel as per election promise, mayor Brown has said it leaves the council with a $2B shortfall. I'd hold my breath for any thing to come out of the Lolli jar for speedway. A rates hike only certain out come.

at least the speedway brings an income. an empty stadium used just for occasional concert and club rugby games is a cost

What actually has the council got planned they intend close springs down ? prior to this was turning springs into cricket facility for Test matches. when they discovered how much was gonna cost ratepayers.. i'd imagine thought twice about that lol those in charge really havent got clue. speedway did generate income when there was season of 12 meetings.. Have no Speedway and maybe concert that will really bring in punters. just bit of joke.. funny thing is person who started campaign stop speedway no longer lives in the area.

Eden Park seems to have become more popular as a venue with concert promoters, looking at what has been since Covid times and upcoming in 2024.

Barry B Havent they got permission for at least 3 concerts per year at Eden Park ? i heard Coldplay doing 3 shows in November at Eden Park.u have Spark Arena has most of the indoor shows come nz.. where on earth is western springs going host any outdoor concerts. apart from annual pasifika the odd concert at field before entrance to the stadium. leaves gapping hole and entire empty stadium throughout the year.. good planning wasnt it by council.

Yes, I did just mean the outdoors one. Because until Eden Park won the right to stage them there was really only Western Springs and Mount Smart of any great size, in Auckland at least. I'm not sure on how many per year they're allowed at Eden Park, but yes, Coldplay are booked for three there next November. They played at Mount Smart last time they were here in, from memory, 2016. Promotors are booking Eden Park because there are a large number of artists touring the world as stadium tours. There are only a few artists around the world that can tour as stadium based productions. Guns N Roses, Ed Sheeran, Pink and Cold Play are a few of those artists. There is also a battle between concert promoters in New Zealand between Live Nation and TEG Dainty. Live Nation own venues in the US and they also own shares in Spark Arena via EVENZ. With the addition of Eden Park as a concert venue outside of the control of Auckland Stadiums, the promotors can choose both Eden Park and Western Springs depending on the requirements of the artist including staging size and how popular the artist is via ticket sales. Western Springs has its place as a concert venue along with being a speedway venue. The current promotor isn't up to the standard required to operate the springs at the level it needs to be as a multi purpose venue. Knows alot about speedway, but falls short on the understanding of what promotion is all about.

can't believe they would sell enough tickets for one Coldplay concert let alone 3 I think there's 50,000 people per show, so x3 = 150,000 @ hundreds of dollars per ticket. Bazinga. Barry B
