For those who don't go here to get all their Modified news www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100057153682347here's a bit of info on the 31st running of the Dirt Cup at Waikaraka on Saturday night. From the original 19 entries we've lost 3 through injured cars or drivers. Definitely not as many cars as we would have liked but there's a few guys keeping their powder dry for the PFS NZ Modified Champs in Stratford in two weeks' time (30 entries for that so far). It's also unfortunate that we're going up against the NZ Sprintcar title at the Springs on the same night. The format will see the field split into three groups, each racing the other once with the top 6 points scorers overall going into the Pole Shuffle for the first 6 grids in the 30 lap final. Make a note of the link above as grids and results will be posted on there during the night. GROUP A 1nz Brad Lane 21s - Newton Gordge 21a - Gary Parker 53h - Barry Hunter 54gm - Steve Thompson GROUP B 3nz Luke Brown 12s - Jason Kalin 32gm - Ian Whyte 68h - Cody Heta 199h - Samantha Lane GROUP C 5gm - Brandon Parkinson 11a - Jamie Fox 28w - Ricky Dykstra 69h - Brett Parsons 71s - John Jackson 411h - Matt Addis

Unfortunately the driver of 63a is out of action after having ACL reconstruction surgery on his knee about a month ago (not related to the crash). Normal recovery time for this procedure is 6 - 9 months but he's hoping to be able to squeeze into the car and race the Auckland Champs in two months time.

Lucky it was on your knee then ,and not any where else ,i guess you still go to the house of the IRISH ,...

They've got a great big lake next door, surely the Springs Faithful can form a bucket brigade and tip it onto the track. Imagine the embarrassment if Waikaraka rolls out a better race surface than the Springs tonight (frankly after last night, that's not much of a challenge)

To be really honest that is my worry. I will be seriously Pi... off if we have another episode of last night. I got home and looked like i had been working in a coal mine. This just is not acceptable. Waikaraka get the watering correct almost 100% of the time. Baypark have improved 1000%. Well done Rodney and team. Come on Western springs step up lets face it you are not Waka Kotahi they have the ownership rights to stuffing things up.

Led the entire 30 laps. I "watched" it on live laps, but could hear them racing from Pakuranga with the ranchslider open. Must have been loud for those in the closer suburbs Barry B

He didn't win the first start - 54GM jumped to a decent lead but a tangle further back in the field in turn 2 caused a 10 minute delay whilst they disentangled cars and Foxy won the full restart.

Brad Lane spun mid race and was put to the back and never really recovered. Track was pretty much one lane so passing was difficult to the extent that when Fox caught the last place car he didn't manage to lap it despite trying for several laps.

Luke Brown had dived under him with contact under a second before the spin:

Imagine the embarrassment if Waikaraka rolls out a better race surface than the Springs tonight (frankly after last night, that's not much of a challenge) WP Track was awesome Saturday night with multiple lines throughout the night.... Dust only arrived in the Dirt Cup final about 15 laps in and it was minor compared to Friday night at the springs.... TBH I wish they had the NZ Sprint car champs at WP.... really disappointed with WS prep team.... they should of being putting water into the track from race 1. Understand they had been informed of potential downpours which didn't eventuate....
