With the mighty sprintcar 50 lapper and the NZ Midget Gran Prix this weekend at Western Springs - what other classes are running?
TQ’s I believe are Kihikihi
F2’s not invited to run
Unsure on 1/4 midget
The plan was to have 3 classes running - however the website still says support class TBC only 4 days out from event.

The other support class will be the track prep equipment, I'd put my money on the watertruck to take it out, probably grader second, then some sort of tractor third

Water truck maybe a few isolated runs There isn’t a large car count so the track should hold up fine. 22 sprintcars and 26 midgets I believe |

The weather maybe the deciding factor ,lets hope not ,but this drizzle has not blown away all week so far ..
It is surely annoying when promotion does not come forward early and tell the competitors and teams who is racing ...

anyone know the format for the 50 lap sprintcar race?
Are they going to try and go 50 laps on a tank?
Are they having a Red mid race to refuel?
If so will it be an open Red where they can do whatever or just refuel?
If a red will it be a Knoxville Style timed red where a airhorn goes off to signal when can start working on cars and another for 1 minute left and then another when must be hands off the car.

I guess Caltex will certify the pumps upon installation, however there's rarely forecourt services available these days. The drivers will have to pump their own gas AND be carrying the correct amount of cash!! Barry B |

Yes, there is a dedicated fuel stop during the race and my recollection is it will be timed.
Standard SNZ regulations do not allow on track refueling (see rule E5-10). Without specific knowledge of the situation, my educated guess is the Springs promotion will have submitted a safety plan to SNZ regarding how the timed pit stop will take place. SNZ board will have approved and dispensated.

i do hope that this fuel stop has some sort of rules to it and does not become a potential fire bomb hazard .
Some crews when even refueling in the pits can be so lapse in there ability to insure that safety is a precautionary measure .
IT is easy to be wise after a fire like in pit lane at Bathurst for a example

It is a necessary stop, the cars won't make it to 50 otherwise. So assuming 25 US gallon fuel cell, that's more ~95 liters to go 50 laps, yeah I can see that would be close. |

I think most might be 28 gal bladders which they use in states and a half mile fuel rule is 55 total laps of a 1/2 mile then a fuel stop maybe required woo does 55 laps total but stop needs to be done as early as possible (don't want a fuel stop with 5 to go ) soon as no they can't go distance it's open red |
