That car really opitimises what Mungo was all about. All his cars were neat, simple, tidy and looked grouse!!!!! He made the building and the racing look easy. Maybe time for a thread all about Mungo eh??

Most of these things look pretty challenged in the looks department.... but this one actually looks quite nice!
Isn't pipe actually stronger than RHS size for size - and lighter per unit length as well though? (Which is why most race cars are made out of round section rather than square)?
So is a pipe chassis not as strong as the standard square tube ones??

Hi I ran into Neville Irvine who was my pit crew man in the mid seventies when i had this stock car and i was sponsored glen vale wines and John Wigg linens also the NZ road services did work on the engine. Murray Reeves was a mechanic there he did a bit of work on the head on the old Bedford engine J1 double valve springs etc, also had a 3 speed crash gear box, i remember sitting on pole with the gear lever in my hand before the race started but managed to get it in before the green flag i can still here the commentator talking about it LOL it also had a locked diff. The chassis was a bit banana shaped looking by the time i sold it.I will post some old photos and mag stuff when i dig it out

Have a look on the last page at the purple 14s sitting with the commodore. It is the car Claud bought off me and now belongs to Nigel. I believe it is still straight after all these years. Still also running the holden motor. It was always a struggle to keep it under 1500kg when we had it. But it was real strong. Drummond certainly built it tough for teams racing duty for the all mighty scrappers. And it was still doing alright last year for the Otago Team
