that rover was awsome is that the one that hartly had as well ?? No, that was one Murray Gordge built and spent (I think) one season racing, trying to drum up more business for his Saloon chassis. I'd love to know where that car is today........ Was 2NZ three times, 1990 (for Gordge) and in both 1991 and 1993 for Hartley.

Race, may be the wrong word, but Mike Peigler(Spl?) ran one of the old ones for a few seasons out of Huntly and Waikaraka. I remember it had a diff leak for ages that went unattended.

The Murray Gordge car went to James Berryman 22p, turned into a Mustang, last seen around 2003, upside down at the NZ Champs.....

but how many rovers did blondie have .i understand 1 would that be right ? Yep, pretty sure he only had the one - which then went to Wellington and Grant Campbell raced it for many years (known locally as the Landcrab at the time...), then to Mike Pegglar up north. Pretty sophisticated car in its day - although I'm never sure how it went so well with an independent rear end - much better unsprung weight, but no lift bar effect (I don't think it would have had much anti squat built into its linkages - so certainly not as much as you would get with a torque arm). No one else has ever done the same thing though, so guess its not such a good idea... Guess it was because Blondie can make anything go fast! (And it was all alloy and very light). The Gordge one went to Bryan Hartley, who I think rebodied it as a Commodore - then had a huge argument with SNZ that a Rover engine was actually a Buick, so he could put a GM body on it?? Didn't know it became a Mustang though - that must have been because the Rover/Holden argument wouldn't fly?

I remember that, he was really quick up the hill, lots of traction - but had a real hard time getting around the hairpin turn at the top!!
Right hand turn, locked diff, no handbrake - not a good combination for a dirt track car...
That just seems typical of the sort of things that Blondie would have a go at though!
