Hi one and all
My Wife and I are non smokers and would like to know what the macgors family think about a smokers area at all speedway tracks and even if the public, drivers, crew and officials should use it.
We feel that it should be away frm the pits as with all the race fuels around it would make it safer and have it more less of a risk of fire in the pits.
Your in put on this issue would be great

Move to Wellington , they have a smoke free stand .
Been no comment about it on here so assume the smokers are all happy sitting elsewhere . Are there many more empty seats on the stand now?.

Sounds real good to me (as I am also a nonsmoker) , But would be very hard for the security to police as they have enought to do .

I'm an ex smoker too but it really doesn't bother me a whole lot being around considerate smokers.

Considerate smoker = oxymoron
Here are a few others in case you need examples:
Military intelligence Civil war Australian sportsmanship Cheap plumber Vegetarian Vampire Rap music Honest politician
Getting the idea? Smoking sucks. The idea that I should move because some sucker wants to suicide next to me tramples all over my rights as a paying customer.
Even worse is the bozo flicking lighted cigarette butts up into the air to land on innocent kids ten rows down. This has happened to us at Speedway and just goes to show how much respect smokers have for themselves and others.
I strongly support a smokers' area to be set aside at Speedway and other public venues. Something like a shipping container comes to mind; with the doors firmly closed.

it amuses me greatly that these same people that moan about smokers are quite happy to sit and inhale all the toxic fumes created by the vehicles during competition, let alone the dust or the noise. isnt that a oxy moron ??

What I've found is most smokers CAN'T read.
Our pits are smoke free, or so the sign says.
They smoke right beside the sign, on the embankment there were/are signs in front and they stand there smoking.
At the end of their smoke they drop/flick their but away like they dislike it, why can't they walk to the trash can at the front?
But you have super saloons coming in off the track trailing flame 2 - 3 feet out from their cars through all that fuel.

Palmy stand is smoke free also.
I hate it when they smoke around me but can put up with it if i have to. What i hate most is when they do it around children. Most meetings only go for 3-4 hrs so surely they can hold off that long to the end of the meeting i go else where to smoke.

I think a dedicated smokers area would be a good idea. For the life of me I can't figure out why anyone would be stupid enough to smoke, but if they do, we should be looking after them as well. In a dedicated smoking area someone objecting to smoking around their little ones would be told sorry these are the smoking seats. Much in the same way a smoker is told sorry these are non-smoking seats. This way we could treat all paying patrons with respect.

Ive experienced this at bay park. Someone was smoking near by and normally this wouldnt have concerned me, we had been sitting down since about 6.30 and a family sits next to us and the mum lights up, i asked her if she would mind going up 1 row or not smoking as it was blowing into my son, her response was to laugh at me and turn back to watch racing. We have a weather cover that keeps alot of wind\rain etc and keeps alot of fumes and dust out but when someone next to you is smoking it goes right inside.needless to say we had to move. What concerns me is she clearly has a lack of respect for my child smoking near him but her own children aswell

we have smokefree stands at temarua,it seems to work well,if im im the stands and feel like a smoke i and other smokers leave the stands and go sit down somewhere else,i agree smokin round kids is bad,we dont smoke in our house or car and cringe when we see others smokin with kids in there cars, if oyu have non smokin areas at yourtrack you have every right to make a noise if someone's smokin there, give em hell we all have our faults

We feel that it should be away frm the pits as with all the race fuels around it would make it safer and have it more less of a risk of fire in the pits. Your in put on this issue would be great I have advocated at Tauranga City, as a smoker and now a non-smoker, we have in place a restriction on smoking in 'public fixed seating areas'. Covered and or fixed seating areas at rugby, speedway, fixed seating adjacent a child's playground, bus shelters, etc. Seems to me non-smokers have the right to enjoy their surroundings without being subjected to very real negative health impacts - of cigarete smoke. I choose to attend speedway and the noise, dust, petrol fumes that apply by doing so. Folk do not choose to die a slow death from second hand smoke inhalation. Having spent many hours in many speedway pit areas, I don't have issues with smo0kers in the pits. Never seen any fires, exppolosions yet - appreciate if we look for areas of potential risk the list would never end! So long as it's not in my face I don't really have an issue with folk enjoying a cigarete, provided they are considering those around them.

. Does this mean that if you are a paying customer but a smoker you then have no rights? I am a smoker and consider myself a considerate smoker...two things that really annoy me though are 1/ People that see that I smoke and then sit next or near me and pregnant dog about smoking..if you see me smoking and dont like it , sit somewhere else...its pretty simple 2/ People that are rude or abusive when asking you not to smoke...if I am sitting near you and if you ask nicely if i could not smoke , I wont smoke or move to a different spot...manners are a great thing and are free to use If it is a big crowd I will try and find an area where there is not too many people so I can smoke..the only problem I can see with a designated area for smokers is where do you put that area..do they get an area on each corner and one on the straight..everyone has there favorite spot to sit I admit that not every smoker is considerate ,but a large percentage of them are...the ones that flick butts into crowds of people deserve everything they get
