The best superstock driver of all time is Dave Evans not only winning all the individual major titles but also the way he helped other drivers from his Palmerston north club (ask Gary parks when he won 1nz in nelson). I still rate that 3rd heat at Nelson by Dave Evans as the greatest race I ever saw by any individual driver. The way he removed the opposition was, for me like how an old time cricket fan would feel watching Bradman at his best, a true master.

The car he has at the moment is the all time "cant stay on its wheels" But had some luck apart from the clutch in the wekend for his 2nd place.

what else has Boote won? Just courious thats all. Seems to me that theres a lot of other drivers around that have won 3 or more of the major titles. They may not happen to be the NZ title but they are just as hard to win..................................................

Bootes won 2x south island titles, hes won the auckland teams nats once too with nelson in the late 90s.
Im not entirely sure but id say hes won the nelson club champs at least once or twice.

For me it has to be Frankie Wainman Jnr, he comes over here each year for one thing, to win! It has only been in the last year or so that he has had help, before then he was a one man band and look at what he has done, the first to win the world 240's 3 times and how close has come to getting that 1nz? The why he and all the poms drive is great to watch, they have front bumpers and they use them!

I think there is a difference between favorite and best. For me it was Kevin Free. Winning the national title 3 times over 3 decades and Teams title. I can also see the argument for Evans and Boote. Does not matter to me who it is but the debate is always interesting!

Hey I can see why and understand why Bootey has the fan base he does..............................he is a brilliant driver and truly one of the gr8s. Having seen them both race at their peaks I would put Evans up there by himself any day. Depending on his mood he would come out and show the field a clean pair of heels and destroy em with pace (especially if the track was slick) and the next race he might come out and start swatting em around like flies......................................
Both gr8 drivers but for those of you who never saw much of The General at his peak......................................you sure missed out seeing something

Craig Boote.
NZ1 3 times. South Island Champ 2 times 3rd South Island Champs 2 times 3rd World 240s 1 time
Wayne Hemi
NZ1 1 time NZ 2 3 Times North Island Champ 1 time 2nd North Island champs 1 time NZ Grandprix Champ 1 time World 240s 1 time
i just looked on speedway archive
so thats 8 placings each in the major titles.
this is not including teams as i got no idea.
In my opinion i reckon Bootes record is a wee bit better with being nz1 3 times.
but thats just my opinion. thanks

They may not happen to be the NZ title but they are just as hard to win.................................................. It is a hard one to determine, but Bootes success rate would definitely be unrivalled (won 75% of NZ champs hes raced in!!!.. and would be 100% if he didnt have the play in the tank at Roto) FWJ would probably hold a similar stat for races won that hes competed in (only to be taken out in the last).. but Stockcars is about hitting.. so thats when Evans and Rees and Bernstein and co. all enter the fray.. Great Stockcar drivers, who when they lose hope of a title, they then determine who does win!!
