ah Sonic , you've worked out why I'm at home tonight . mind you I had thought of taking my mazda demio up and see if I could qualify it . I reckon the little buzz bomb would last the laps.
still think the format is good , just needed another half a dozen cars.

With you captain Macgor. Haven't been looking at entries leading up to the event. ( too much fishing), but thought there would be more.
Marble draws crucial for tomorrow. I would want 20, 12 and 1 or something similar. Your demio might struggle night 2

just be aware it's 3 qualifying heats to decide the grid for a one race final . 4 races in all plus another one if you come through the repecharge. lot of racing over the two nights . whoever wins it will have earnt it.

Agree. Night 2 will be where it happens.
I will be taking my boys to BP for the caravan derby 2morrow so will miss the finals. I am compiling results to see if the most passing driver ends up 1nz.
Just need grid draws from today and tomorrow, plus results. Keen to see how it pans out. I will do a full debrief after the event.

Also thinking that with low numbers in each heat, and 4 heats that most groups coud end up tied on points for 6th. That's if there are 6 that complete 4 heats!

Yes, very early in the racing. Those with no fear and the cars to match (Williams, Emmo +) found drive on the outside and passed many.

It was a good night's racing and the format seems to work well with only one proviso. handing out points to non-finishers needs to be addressed somehow - it seems unfair that a competitor who only finishes 2 heats can end up with higher points than someone who completes all 4 heats. Maybe there needs to be some sort of penalty for a DNF such as a deduction of 5 points to tip the balance back in favour of reliability.
Well done to all the competitors, the Huntly club and also the support classes on a well run and entertaining evening.

I would have to agree with Salooncar, It was a good nights racing and to get it all done by 11.00pm surprised many.
The 18 qualifiers were
1nz, 3nz, 4w, 6b, 7m, 8h, 11m, 16m, 21h, 24m, 25i, 31m, 35n.38h, 63h, 71n, 96a, 121n........with 2 more from the repecharge.
For me the standouts had to be 21h Steve Williams, 96a Lance Jennings and 38h Peter hemi who especially fought some bad luck and drove fantastic in his last heat race to win from the back.
There are some real dark horses in the bunch and a few drove tonight knowing all they had to do was save machinery and qualify...
the repecharge should be interesting with 46e on grid 1 and 99a on 2. Some sensible heads should see these 2 go through.
Only 2 can go through but based on the points 76m goes to grid 3, 51a & 5b are tied on points for grids 4 & 5. Geoff Fletcher 48h goes to grid 6, 17a Slater to 7. then its 34t, 98a with 36a & 55a tied for the last 2 grids.........
Roll on tonight...

Without having the grids it did seem there were very few that were at the pointy end all night, even with the small field in each heat.
I didn't think there was a lot of passing. Will do a full calculation if I get some grid results.
With me going to BP tomorrow it may mean the most passing driver may me discovered early next week. Keen to do a full analysis tho.

The track did slick off early, but appeared to come back late in the night. I know Jennings came from 10th to 4th in one race, there would be a couple of performances to beat that, Williams from 9th or 10th to 3rd in the last race, but taking into account anybody passing an average of a couple of cars per race was going to get through easily I'm not sure analyzing all of the grid draws during qualifying will achieve an awful lot when 10 cars are aiming for a top 6. Several top drivers spent heats 3 & 4 experimenting with setups for the second night.
Tomo...........oops, tonight, will be a lot different with the pressure on early. Seven cars stood out for mine; 38h, 96a, 121n, 8h, 21h, 7m and 1nz, in no particular order.
