The way the rees an humpfreys situation is going it can only end very badly for someone. We have Asher on the radio saying he will go till he retires Kerry. To me that can only mean he will no longer be pyshically able to drive a race car. Already we have seen broken leg knocked out drivers. how far do they want this to go. How far will speedway NZ allow this to go. Yep you can all say its what we pay for but at the of the day someone is going to get a life time injury from this crap. There are also children involved who will also suffer. With OSH also checking on speedway from time to time it could end it all for everyone. I think all parties involved need to pull there heads in an see this for what it could potential become.

Yep fully agree with you, they should change the rules to push/tap to pass only, just like some of our saloon/supersaloons drivers do!

Before this thread degenerates I'll jump in.
Clearly there is a lot of emotion around this hit at the moment and in due course clearer heads will prevail.
I don't know if the 79p driver has been referred to the board but I'll take an educated guess that he has. People need to remember that we have rules in our sport to deal with incidents like this and that there is a process to go through.
Some of our posters could also do with downloading an electronic copy of the Speedway New Zealand rulebook and having a read.

I'm not just referring to the latest incident. I'm talking in general it's been going on too long. I understand abit of playful rivalry but when people are getting hurt an threats of life long injury are being made enough is enough. As far as rules are concerned it seems the one rule for all doesn't apply to speedway. Sadly !

A number of our posters have been referring to straightline incident which I assume is what you are referring to. I took the time to go through that incident and express an opinion based on the rules at the time. The incident was anything but clear cut in relation to the rule. It irks me that multiple posters who did not debate with me on that thread come on here claiming favouritism etc when that incident was extremely complex with regards to the prevailing straightline rule. Don't forget that incident was ultimately a catalyst for the new rule to come into effect. I guess it's easier to make sweeping assumptions and stupid statements than to make an analytical contribution to this forum.

I'm pretty sure when the straightlining/over aggressive rule came in it was so that a thorough investigation can be done with no bias and people with significant intelligence and experience able to make decisions on how the sport can safely move forward but while continuing the spectacle that it is.
In saying that this incident is different so will be ruled differently. Too far hmmm I personally think not as rivalries have been around for ever and a day and will continue on aswell. Maybe instead of focusing soley on the crash, the rivalry, way cars are built maybe look at the fact that no one actually got hurt? Is this not a testament to the way the cars are built. Or perhaps looking at a better way the end of the race is signalled like progressive yellow lightspeed well as chequered flag. What's between the rees and Humphrey or any competitors well that's there business.
It's giving us a spectacle so be happy. We moan when it's flag racing now we moan when there's hitting. (Yes I do know when the hit took place). So let's let the officials officiate and the racers race

My statement about rules was broad. I wasn't referring to any particular incident. I see many rules being broken by many experienced respected drivers who should know better. Sorry if I wrote it down confusingly

Unless the rules are enforced consistently and the penaltys are harsh there will be no changes in attitude by some drivers . Five day standowns and a couple of hundred dollar fines is no more than a slap on the hand with a wet bus ticket.

lustee, I think you're drifting into a whole different area of officiating standards and rule enforcement. I think you have a valid point in that regard (heck, I'm NZ Speedways #1nz officiating complainer!) but it's probably a whole new thread.
I'll also add that it's part of what makes our sport what it is. Some fans think some drivers get away with blue murder and develop a dislike for those drivers. As a sport I think it's healthy that we have our favourites and the drivers we don't like. If we were watching a bunch of drivers we didn't care about speedway wouldn't be half the sport it is.

Yes I can see everyone's points and give full respect for all of your opinions. I do tend to drift onto other topics. But I still think this is going to get very ugly and just hope all concerned know what's at stake at the end of the day.. I think there are more than just the drivers playing petty childish games here. Thanks you all for responding and as always giving us all other perspectives to consider....

A part of the problem lustee is seeing, is we use local refs (domiciled in the district) and this tends to sway their judgement, as they "know" the driver. Most of what has happened so far this season could have been shortened by one judgement call at the start, whether paint could be seen or not, luckily I didn't get to make the call, it would have been different.

'Go until he retires Kerry' I know Asher is only young but really? That's a fairly silly thing to say. Just get on with life and racing etc and if the opportunity arises get him back. Yep after the flag etc and you probably have your mates rarking you and plenty of chest puffing going on but theres bigger things in life to worry about than a cheap shot (possibly) and living every race trying to kill this guy. Every meeting you will be eyeballing each other in the pits and the crews will be anti social when they have had a few beers. There goes the fun, family aspect of the sport we all got into for that very reason. And getting back to your point Lustee, yeah I think you are bang on about it ending badly for someone. But unfortunately its becoming a blood sport for some where they try to king hit anything or anything every meeting. If SNZ try to implement hard line rules to combat it i'm thinking some of the drivers will form some kind of association ( its been bandied about for the last few years) and go it alone. We lose , they lose, its a no win. Solution? There isn't one except changing attitudes. Stockcars are hitting harder than ever. Supers are fierce. Multiple car teams hunt in packs so there is not paybacks without an escalation. Back in the day ( I can hear you all moaning lol) the guys had rivalries and little interclub wars going on but for the most part everyone got along because it was fun and cheap. If you had an issue because of on track goings on, you had a talk to the other guy about it. SOmetimes yelling and sometimes you took your biggest crew guys lol but end of the day you had a beer and laughed about it maybe a few weeks later. my 2 cents

As someone said on the facebook page - it takes a man to apologise but a bigger man to accept it. This is a big learning curve for a young and abviously talented young man. he can either be the bigger man, accept the apology and forge a fantastic career or carry on as he is and risk ruining his or someone elses life in the process. Kerry is not blameless but as it stands now even a legitmate tap between the 2 is now going to be seen as "payback". Its all getting a bit silly.

Has it gone too far? Perhaps not yet, but if things posted as reportedly said by the various parties since are all true, it's about to.
I just implore the various parties to consider what's important in life, and if what they're saying to each other really does seem THAT important right now, then it maybe THEY that need to take a good look at themselves. Then they should go out, meet a few people, especially children, that really ARE hard done by, then take a look at what these people have got when compared to themselves. Chill boys. It's only speedway. It's not really that important in the overall scheme of things.

Has Kerry actually apologised or stated he intends to apologise? His post seemed more about justifying and explaining what happened rather than putting up his hand and saying I stuffed up. Yes I am a Rees fan and that will influence how I see this. Had the hit been legal I'd have accepted it. Had there been a grey area (eg it happened just after the flag) then begrudgingly accepted it. Is the punishment enough? Not for me to say but bet Chad Ace has an opinion.
I do worry it has gone a bit far. Emotions seem pretty high in the Rees camp if some comments here are gone by and hopefully time will see heads cool a little. Suspect they wont race this weekend to help prepare for teams and that that time may help things a little. Stop and think how upset would you be in this case where it a) robbed you of the chance of a title b) scared the living bajeebus out of you c) saw it as a personal attack and d) put you at serious risk of harm (how many drivers to you see unbuckling on incar on the warm down lap). Worse if you saw it happening to your own son? I think they showed great strength and character not to settle it other ways in the pit.
i just hope this just gives an edge to teams and nothing bad comes of it for the sake of all 3 involved and the sport itself.
