Meanwhile in Glass Rd Mt Roskill there's a blocked stormwater drain. Every time it rains the road floods and it's been like this for over a year. This is under the control of the same governing authority who are responsible for the report above.
Doesn't give you a lot of hope does it.

4.30pm news hub have just released the latest devolpment with auckland city council deciding to support the regonal councils recommendation to convert western springs to a cricket facility and waikaraka park as the motorsport facility for speedway. it woula appear the end of open wheel racing at western springs is very sadly going to be a reality.

so are they proposing running 8 hour long speedway/stockcar meetings? Not all classes have to run each night. Currently Waikaraka have 8-9 contacted classes. We usually run 5-6 per night. As I see it either the two greoups run together with 6 classes each night but more meetings per year or run virtually every Sat with the two groups having their own nights (maybe a couple of joint "premier" events (eg Rolling Thunder and John Webster). It would be nice to give every class at least 8-10 meetings per year with the larger classes getting up to 15. Also, I thought Cricket NZ were against moving to Western Springs - but this indicates otherwise. Looks like someone has been telling porkies or else adding 2 + 2 and getting 5... I just hope speedway gets something out of this rather than both groups getting nothing... John

The council cant find 400k plus to demolish the grandstand at wacky park ,so how is it going to build a cricket ground at the springs .. You can build the flashed sports stadium in the world ,but who has given the council assurances that competitors will race at this new venue ? A private track could be built out of the clutches of this council ,Open wheellers being the major input with international racers added .. Nothing is impossible ,it is the way you go about achieving it ..

On a radio news report this afternoon they said that NZ Cricket has asked to leave Eden Park as it is unsuitable for international cricket and want to go to purpose developed cricket ground at Western Springs. A lot of he said she said at the moment. With the drums beating seems W/S as a speedway venue is doomed but as we know consents etc take time and with the council talking over a Billion for a new enclosed stadium perhaps we need a petrol tax just to upgrade or build these stadiums. If WP grandstand is deemed so unstable as to be used, $400k seems high to knock it down, by their reporting it's ready to fall down on it's own.

If (and I do use the word if) WS is doomed, then it would be good to hear the WS drivers thoughts on their preferred "new"venue. Is Waikaraka Park or Colin Dale a preferred location? Both locations will need substantial $ spent to create an international standard venue - so thought should be given to location and access rather than existing facilities.

An oval stadium at western springs could proceed once speedway ceases at the venue .the venue could be availible to use with in a one to two year time frame ,from when the project is initiated In the interim appropiate provision levels need to be maintained for all current activities ..
So a lot more water will flow under the bridge before the project is or can be initiated ,and all current activities maintained By that time mr Goff will be struck off with a red card ,and the ratepayers might get some reprieve .

Surprised no-one yet has isolated this comment from all the reports in the last couple of days
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says the stadium is not currently high on the priority list for consideration by the Government.
So if the Government is not prepared to contribute to this new homage to Phil Goff's ego, that's the Council committing $30 million to redevelop the Springs, $30 million to build a new motorsport complex and $1.5 billion for the replacement for Eden Park; and don't forget the squillions of dollars for their Magical Mystery Light Rail System
Now just where exactly is all this money coming from. The council is already at it's borrowing limit so can't go further into debt, and they can't sell Eden Park for the simple reason they don't own it.
In addition, there's the small matter of consents. The concept for the Springs Cricket Stadium is nothing more than a few sketches at the moment, as is the Motorsport Complex. Solid plans need to be drawn up, then a Tender process, followed by Resource Consent and then the actual build. Many people in our fair city will tell you it can take almost a year to get a simple three bedroom house built so if they think they'll put all the above together and build two Stadiums, because one can't progress without the other, in just two years..............well that's the ultimate Tui billboard.

most of this whole stadium debarcle seems to have been driven by cricket, ..cricket wants this, cricket needs that, etc. as I understand, cricket is part owner of eden park, which nobody seems to want, and has limited consent nights. perhaps cricket , should realise their assets, and stump up a lot of the dosh needed. apart form a couple of big bosh, drink fuelled games, their crowd numbers are in the low hundreds, but as a facility demanding sport, (need different size grounds for different sorts of cricket ?) the sport gets way more taxpayer funding (welly is being held hostage over the basin reserve) than it would seem to deserve.

On the minds of alot of folk is the price of fuel ,and how it will affect many lives in everyday activities .. Bums on seats at any stadium will be in short supply as well as competitors ,if current trends ,escalate much further upwards ..

stockcar people want to watch stockcars etc and speedway people want to watch open wheel cars.
I hate having to sit through stockcar "races" waiting to watch sprintcars and midgets. I hear stockcar people saying the same thing about having to sit through midgets.
running both on same night makes no sense, just pisses off both sets of supporters.
NZ Cricket says one thing, Auckland Cricket say something different.
