Tonight was the biggest crowd I have ever seen at Western Springs. I did not witness the hay day when there were cars parked on the medium strip of the North Western Motorway but man that was good to see. Particularly encouraging to see so many kids, the next generation to keep Speedway alive on Auckland. Only downside was the queau to get a beer was a lot longer than normal, Bugga.

Agree totally. Even the "white elephant" terraces that the council installed finally found a use... Close to 19,000 there tonight according to commentary. How much history is being thrown away at that place! Perhaps the council could put the 91m into Eden park with some sort of guarantee of return when it eventually becomes housing and take concerts there. Turn the track slightly and let us stay! Better public transport would fix a lot of issues also, e.g. how about free trains (need a train line first of course) with your entry ticket.

Crowd was unreal and the place had an amazing buzz about it
I'm a bit young to have been part of the "glory years" but tonight must have come close to replicating the feel from that era

strange that the biggest crowd this century and the one night they did not have the 50/50 raffle.
It was like back in the 70s and 80s when had to be there by 2pm to get your seat.

Good to see there was a great crowd to finish the season and show the council/RFA that the place has some support.
You now have 18 months to the kick off for the 20-21 season. You would think this would be close to the minimum time required to build a new stadium. Bearing in mind the place gets closed up for 7 months now, I hope things are being worked on to get a permanent solution to the future of open wheel speedway, and WS are not going to rest on the 12 month extension. Not sure how much luck WS will have with a " we are not moving until we have somewhere else to go" attitude in 12 months
If it is a new venue then this needs to sorted now. If it is stay at WS then lets tie in down for 3 years minimum and have the lease tendered for just to keep everything honest and transparent.
I know the RFA don't seem to have the skills for what they are trying to do, and it is election year etc etc but if things don't keep moving now, in march next year, WS will be in the exact same position they were a month ago, fighting for their existence.
All the pics and vids of crowd numbers last night, (although in no way representative of a normal Saturday night) should be used now to gain momentum and build on the one year extension. I would like to see updates on the website or FB during the off season to see how things are progressing, or what the plan is post March 2020. Percy?
One thing that is for sure negotiations need to continue now. I would also suggest a third party be bought in (impartial) to assist with finding a permanent solution that secures open wheel racing in Auck indefinitely, as the handling of this to date has been poor, unprofessional, and NOT in the best interest of the sport.
Sorry for hi-jacking the thread. Moderators can move it to the RIP western Springs thread if they wish. Well done to all the people that turned up to watch. Hope the racing was as good as the crowd.

Bill should have a lawyer do his talking for him. Just so he doesn't get too "excited" and say something that can hurt his case.

Next stage of the process is the Council Finance Committee meeting which is scheduled for some time in April. That meeting should provide some clarity about the future and things can happen from there.

As we have seen there is passion/interest for the place, so would be good to keep things updated/transparent as things progress.

The crowd showed its solidarity , when push comes to shove there is those who get in behind a spokes person such a dedicated man for the sport and to keep the Springs alive as long as possible as a Speedway . It was an amazing atmosphere and showed the true KiWi spirit ,something we all needed from past days events that have occurred .. Micheal Pickens thankyou another stellar meeting ,with all the rest that have made this season shine like the rest ..

Possibly due to fireworks. Fireworks were fair and reasonably cancelled, but increased gate price remained. Perhaps SPL can put on a free, for those who paid last night, fireworks only event, prior to end of this month? Since we've already paid for it. Celebrate a fantastic 2018/2019 season.

Great to see big numbers at the springs, but lets face it. That meeting was always going to be big for two reasons. One being the fireworks, the other being that up until 48 hrs prior,it was being billed in the media as the last meeting ever,to be held at the springs.
Speedway is alive and well at three locations in Auckland, not just the springs.

Buckley made it clear at drivers meeting that the white flag is out SPL are telling us we are off to Colin Dale no ifs or buts. And he directly blamed Lendich(and others unnamed) for his part in the recent council submissions.

Can you provide a link to show me where you got your data from? I know they gave away freebies after what happened in ChCh 24 hours before the game, but when you consider all of the season ticket holders and those that purchased their tickets earlier in the week, "mostly giveaway" is likely to be mostly your imagination.
