He was only in the 81M Hypermac/Phantom car briefly after hurting the engine in the 18M Barry Wright car at the North Island Champs. Now back campaigning the 18M So what happened to his previous 18m? Previous to the big red dog? I'm assuming here the 81m is Dean's car? Barry B I get confused with it all...however I believe the Hypermac that sold went to Josh Boulton. Anthony

Hey Barry, I take your point on trying to sell your newly-uncompetitive, but it's not something that is peculiar to the advent of the successful 4 bar set-ups. Shane McIntyre's cars, for instance, rendered everything else obsolete a number of years back, but time moves on - adapt or die. I don't think resale value ever weighed large in motor racing. I wouldn't really say the disharmony is about the new 4-bar cars, as per you mentioned. Correlation does not imply causation. There should be negligible cost difference between traditional and 4-bar car; and now cost have been lowered with motor rules and car moving away from mid-mount gearbox setups. A closed tube diff will cost a bit more, but they're also much stronger and modular to fix. Technology moves on, and always has just like the first space frames, and first hypermacs... And to be fair some people just don't like change.(refer to the below quote) But what is causing all the disharmony going on behind all that, egos, "camps" and background influence whether that is actual or perceived(no opinion on that) The fall-out from last year's NZ champs, for example, isn't actually about 4-bar cars; but the sudden change in track prep between nights 1 & 2 and how/why that was influenced etc... I wouldn't call it all doom and gloom, the reality is last year's NZ champs were in Dundein, and this year was in Cromwell. That is poor planning by SNZ allocation; Cromwell is luckily the high density of super saloons down there; there must be a super saloon in every 5th garage in the deep south If you look at entrants it also tells another story, but there are only 2 entrants in that list who live north of Christchurch, and don't also have very significant resources funding their racing.(I don't mean that as a knock on them at all, it takes a great amount of work over years and risk-taking to reach that point) A lot of mid to rear pack drivers could race all year on the budget required just to race in Cromwell for the NZ champs. The dingy alone costs almost $2K when I last looked. Yes 4 bars been around for 20 odd years, but your set up needs to be spot on, where as tortion bars are more forgiving on setup, when you get your car built or if you are clever enough to build it yourself you can put both types in and between races change the setup if thats your thing I'm not even sure that is true, it just takes a lot of different understanding of how to build, tune, and drive.(including how to recognise and adapt to drive around an ill-handling car etc) Certain things are completely backward to some have had for 30 years racing, then if you mix that reality with those you don't like change...

Having watched Petrolfumes video's of the heats, the 8 per heat and track made for them the 4 bar brigade didn't light my wick of enthusiasm. Tonight be interesting with full field as bit of carnage with only 8 on track I'm comparing them to the Flynn's for entertainment and current crop not in same ball park. After tonight and twin pack of ginger nuts hopefully enthusiasm ignited for class again and not soaking my ginger nuts in Midways coffee watching open wheelers.

Can anyone confirm the amount of laps for the final, would have presumed 25 or 30, but Osborne said 34 so maybe that’s a tribute to ray stewart

Good track, cars are running a lot wider than last night. Should make for passing in the 34 lap feature

25mins for a production race is an absolute punish

25mins for a production race is an absolute punish I can see what you mean. That's about than two and a half minutes for a lap if the race was ten laps long. Maybe in these days of equity they decided to let them have 34 laps to emulate their Supersaloon brothers but even then that's still real snails pace!

Taking forever to grid this up

Remember the usual rule - the higher profile the class, the longer they take to grid up.
