Looking real nice Cliff but definitley look a heap better when its scratched and has a few dents in it!!! LOL!!! Will be a welcome addition to the Nelson ranks and will be nice to have you back on track in something decent. Its a credit to you and yours!! See ya soon!! Well done!! As for Gods comment, the only extra steel it needs is another car crashing into it!!!

Back onto the subject - how is the tank coming along, and any more pics? p.s and just seen the fuel tank pictures, you would have to think that would be fine - with the rails, and protected not only by the plate, but also the box section. the finishing is looking sharp, cant wait to see some more! cheers

wow over 10.000 hits now, I'm wrapped and really surprised about the amount of interest on this car. THANKS guys and girls. I just hope I can have it performing for you right off the start line. Sorry no updates this time round as I've been laid up in bed for a few days. I guess that's what happens when you do something stupid like exercise. The car only needs 4 or 5 more days spent on it so there's an indication on how close we are to having it race ready. Not to sure on when we will hit the track wet but if not before we will definitely be at the stock shock. Anyway I'm moving again so I'm off to get this tank going. thanks again Cliff

Only a tank can withstand that sort of punishment. It must be hard keeping it looking that good with Marty drooling all over it ;D ;D ;D how far off now, you must be getting close?

heres another The rules state that you must have a straight horizontal bar between the rear rollcage bars, behind the tank and about half way up the tank. Sounds stupid I know with all the other steel around it but thats the rules. Not a hard fix though.

Have just read that rule on the speedway nz site. Can understand it with a spacey but with this one IF a car manages to get through to the fuel tank I think there will be more serious things to worry about
thanks for that PAUL92H

Beatle here Tank 64b.Well done, one huge project. You are obviously a clever guy.Sorry to tell you but I had the same discussion about the horizontal bar and you may as well save youself an argument and just put it in.It will be about time there is more than 1 or 2 Tanks out there doin the business.Talked to Lindsay Trotter at MIP on Sat he has had a couple of runs in his new Bill Peat Tank, said it was a bit heavy but is excited about how it'll go once they iron the bugs out.By the way he is running a Nissan Terrano motor.Keep up the work,I'll be watching out for your reports on how you get on,I'll probly hear or see it on the highlights. P.s The Imp body is Cooler.

Sounds stupid I know with all the other steel around it but thats the rules. Not a hard fix though. The bar you mention is not required to be fitted if the fuel tank is located inside the roll cage bracing, according to the latest interpretation and per rule T8.5.3, Fuel and fuel tanks Superstock and stockcars, if the fuel tank confined towards the rear of the rollcage or under the floor, the tank must be protected from impact damage by the chassis and or rollcage. so as long as the tank is protected by the rear plate which is part of the chassis it should be fine as is.

Well no good looking at the darn interpretation bottom line is it has to be inside the roll cage including the two rear drop bars and ALSO have a rear bar around the middle of the back of the tank.

No, This has been looked at and discussed by one Tank builder and SNZ directors and the above rule and its interpretation has been deemed as sufficent to protect the fuel tank in a tank type vehicle.

By putting in more steel in the cars are SNZ going to change the max weight limit or do the drivers have to find some way to lose weight some where Else on the cars?.

This is off the speedway nz site which I'm guessing is the latest
Rule T12-1-6 (j) If the fuel tank is mounted at the rear of the vehicle, there must be an additional role cage brace, at tank level between the two rear facing braces.
Tho in this case I don't really agree with it, I will be putting the role cage brace in. The time involved in doing this is nothing, as for the extra weight of it, well we will have to see at the final weigh in. I can see this will save alot of issues later on.
Hopefully once speedway nz has finished revamping the rule book things will be much clearer in regards to a tank chassis
cheers farmboy
