Why not showcase some of the vehicles inside westfield malls where there are all types of demographics and this allows anybody to get up and close to the machinery kids will drag their parent to the cars...... Promote the sport with pass give aways to get new people along??

Hmmm have to disagree Holden all the way but respect your choice!!! Well maybe get the Gis or the Jandle man as they are the young and up and coming champs of the V8 Series and get them driving a couple of superstocks???

As far as cricket vs speedway on tv it would come down to money. Somebody must pay sky tv some decent dosh to broadcast. Think, some kind of bank for one. The same could be said for NZ tarmac racing. Average car numbers, and average support classes but still on tv. I think most speedway meets would also struggle on tv. Most meets ( even glamour championships) struggle with support classes. NZ speedway would best be suited to a magazine style programme or a weekend wrap up of highlights from various tracks. There was talk of sommett sports doing something this season, I thought. As with most sports tv just doesn't do it justice, I.E speed of bowling in cricket, Incline and decline at Bathurst, speed and hits and speedway, pace of netball etc Just my thoughts. Well a thought has crossed my mind for ALL clubs and SNZ to pitch for grants which could pay for airtime on sky which could give the global opportunity to showcase the sport we love and I wonder if the guys that race in GB would enjoy having access to view what's going on here in NZ which could attract more visitors to the team champs etc....... maybe NZ on air could help fund this???

It would be great if we could get Greg Murphy & Co at SKY to show case some of the top events on speedweek as this would open up new viewers and could entice punters along to their local if not the Major titles......... No!! The last thing Speedway needs is Greg Murphy!! . Maybe a Marcos Ambrose or a Mark Winterbottom though! So you want Aussies to promote our NZ Speedway??? .... next they will want to claim that to!!!!!!

Good post 888,it amazes me why 4 tracks all have their fireworks meetings on the same night. As you pointed out its a great time for the speedway community to showcase our product/sport to the one off visitors that come. There are only the local cars racing at their tracks because no one can travel resulting in small fields. I think it is another case of missed opportunity to promote our sport to any newbies, had 2 of the 4 tracks rescheduled their meeting for this coming weekend then they may of got extra competitors to put on an even bigger show. Yes totally agree and this is where the coming together / meeting of the mines between WP,BP,Huntly,Rotorua and Kihikihi ( note Kihikihi running Fireworks meeting this weekend) need to work together as I believe these 5 clubs if they could work in harmony could change the sport for the good......... I don't know if this has been tried in the past or not?

I'm hoping too as they were so underrated and have been seen in the past as a team making up the numbers....... This year the other teams will watch them very closely and that will start from the 6th of December........ Rotorua has a very good line up with some new drivers who I'm sure will take every opportunity to adjust from the stockcar teams racing to Superstock Teams....... My dad & I make the trip down to Palmy and I hope / wish that we could then have all the teams turn upto WP now that would be awesome!!!!

Most clubs seem to race series for stockcars / superstocks, saloons / super saloons....... Rotorua, Meanee,Palmy to name a few....... A suggestion would be to ask the drivers in the classes what would spin their wheels so to speak to want to rock up from opening nite and race... There will always be a number of factors which have to tick the boxes which is Racing Budget, Sponsorship, Support Crew, Travel money, Prize money etc....Then you have drivers in my opinion who want to just race and have fun and then you have the drivers who chase the titles, so its finding a series that allows both types of drivers an equal opportunity with a pot of gold to strive for at their local as well as attracting the out of town drivers..... So in a perfect world if we had good car numbers in each class where budgets and sponsorship was good and the club covered its costs with solid crowds turning up each week we would see WP prosper.... which I'm sure the promoter wants this as they could then put up descent prize money which would go someway in getting the top drivers to WP......

It would be a real shame if the Allstars can't build on last year's success. Does anyone out there know who is racing for the Allstars against the Rebels on December 6? Team last year racing at WP Teams was .......... Bryce Marx Scott Tennant Carl Hodge Gavin Taniwha Brad Ridland Jamie Fergusson
This Year....... Bryce Marx ....Race at both meetings at WP Scott Tennant .....Race at both meetings at WP, Stratford and Palmy Carl Hodge ...... 11a yet to make an appearance Brad Ridland .....5a yet to make an appearance Jamie Fergusson ..... car sold and unsure of a drive this year
Who else could come into the team??

WP was packed with spectators arriving very early to get their vantage point. I have not seen queues like that for sometime!!!! Weather was perfect and the place was humming.... Classes running were Mini stocks 24- good clean racing with a good number of new drivers, Modifieds 6- Foxy class above the rest just need more cars on the track!!, Superstocks 4- 29a,63a,316a and 109m not sure where all the other A cars are but for the 2nd week in the row a premier class not their to show case to bring the punters in!! 109M came for his 1st run of the season and is now got an A on his car so welcome to WP. Bigs ups to the 4 drivers who put on a show as best they could!!. Supers / Saloons 14 - some very good racing and great passing around the outside, Stockcars 24 - some very good racing 89a having a ballseye on 651a. Derby cars approx. 26 and they put a great show on in the ramp derby race and then continued on in the derby it self coming down to Nissan Cefiro's going hard!!!!. Fireworks what an awesome display the crowd was buzzing!!!!. When I read about other tracks and the numbers turning up in classes I wish we had them here at WP as a night like last nights would have the punters who normally not turn up coming back for more. We had people with us that had not been to WP in years and though enjoy the evening the ask why some fields are small???. Roll on Huntly Teams!!!!!!
P.S. Superstocks will there be an Allstar Team this year??

So I have been following the superstock gm 350 602 crate engine trial $6000 for 350+ hp sealed engine. I believe this is a step in the right direction. Now that motor in a wingless sprint car even better considering once you have finished converting your 3.8 v6 you are close to $6000 price tag. I believe it still would keep the cost down as the engine comes already sealed from the factory add carb and ignition go racing. I know the six shooter class is slowly growing and believe it or not they are lapping the same if not faster than a couple of big $ classes. 6 shooter or 8 shooter probably no room for both. I like the idea of the 8 shooter and if the costs are similar then it could get off the ground..... I wander if this would change the perception of the class as I'm sure the rumble of a V8 would be enticing for people to watch this class and may make it take off......

I know this is off topic but in response to a few comments, I beleive that there is a small percentage of drivers that do want to hurt other drivers, Just based on human nature as we all know there are a few bad eggs in every part of society. Now that said i'm not saying anyone involved in the recent incident is that way inclined at all. What I am saying however is that phrase's like "no-one deliberatly goes out to hurt anyone" is to a degree putting our heads in the sand. You may not like my comment or agree but it is possible is it not??? Robb Cardwell The small percentage you talk about are these drivers seeking payback for what the racer had done to them previously which may have caused injury or damage to their vehicle?. Yes agreed there are bad eggs but surely they would stand out quickly would they not??? Do we really need these eggs in the motorsport we all want to thrive with our passion to be either a racer or spectator?? What does it take to ban a racer from the sport and has any racer been ban for such an incident/s??.

Hi, go to the links tab on Macgors and then go to the right hand side of the page down under the Heading other NZ Sites you can click onto Stock Car Scene and that will take you through to a website and click photo's / news you scroll down and you will find a you tube clip and you get to see the 3 races of Stockcars and Superstocks. This will show you the 2 hits on Kerry from Asher.

I don't know the history between Kerry and Rees and I wasn't there and I have watch the stock car scene footage. Asher got Kerry pretty we'll in turn 3 in race 2 and you can clearly see Asher on Kerry's bumper as we'll P Rees adding his 2cents worth going into turn 1. You can see a gap all be it small between Kerry and Asher as Kerry hits the wall before Asher comes in again which in my opinion is where Kerry got knocked out. You have to ask yourself how was Kerry feeling after the walling in race 2 as that looked liked a hard impact?. They clearly need to increase the visibility of the zones. Do we need to do more for the drivers who get walled and heavy impacts like what is happening in rugby and league where they are tested for concussion before returning to the field?. Can the infield refs have the powers to have St Johns test a driver/s after a race?. The passion I have for the sport as it is right is how I would like it to be until the day I die........ What I don't want is to see the drivers being seriously injury or dying as I believe no driver is going onto the track to inflict any serious injury on any competitor? . Because the cars are getting faster and engineered to take the hits the drivers are the ones who are becoming the fragile piece of the puzzle.

If a reason is for not seeing the Yellow wall markings for straight lining maybe they should put a yellow PVC material on the ropes so that all drivers can see the area they can not SL?.
