It would be great to see better communications coming from the club out to the punters so they know what's happening at club ie working bees are required to make sure the track is looking good for next season. It would be good to know how the club is financially after last season, what's it doing to draw in new members ( drivers ) this season....

Waikaraka Park used to have big crowds to regular meetings. I have been to big meetings where the grand stand was full and for major events it was full and no more access 30 minutes before the start. Additional the park was at capacity and gates closed as the meeting started. This was a long time ago in the 80s and 90s. The cash registers were ringing and big money was made on the night. Drivers were paid good prize money and those that traveled were paid money to travel. And the rest of the $$$ went to ? I'm going to try my hand at some Nicky Hager type join the dots, Make some assumptions, throw some brown sticky stuff and see if it sticks type B/S Well they built their clubrooms, and flash deck so those that were a little better than the rest could have a good seat/view. Then they should have and might even said mmmm we should look at some long term infrastructure fund to replace things like the wall. If they did those who sit on the deck in front of the new clubrooms might have said "What you wanna waste $$$ on that for? Bits of concrete as it comes flying out of the wall on the turns will never reach up here" Then Bill e mailed Sue and it appears they said if the scum wanna sit in the corners let them get covered in concrete. Meanwhile other papers and documents show several fingers were in the till and ohhh look over there those e mails would appear to back up what I'm saying, and Kim my sources assure me I have drawn the right comclusions. Ok thats taking it a bit far but your right the place has had a history that would have allowed a simple future fund put in place at the right time, and spent in the right places could have saved a lot of good ppl a lot of headaches over the last 6 or 7 years. Well I hope their fingers got the chop if that's the case if not I hope Karma bites or those blue and red lights arrive to seek the return of dollars and cents that the club requires!!!

well one thing that always feels like its a weak link with promoters is their reliance on club reps to do their job for them, getting guys to the track, creating events..you know...I have never been certain of the relationship between the club and the promoter, its unclear to me and its a real grey area for me...how do you answer a question or join debate when you dont fully understand that relationship? Yes a great question..... would be very interested in a answer on the relationships?. shorely has an impact and a question is the class rep liked by the drivers as if that relationship is good then that would answer a question or 2......

Yes Aucklanders are spoilt for choice of activities ..... however as I read people's response and comments we all need to do our bit to get WP up there and promotion and strong fields will play its part but what can the harden supporters bring to the table?? word of mouth can be a very good to attract virgin punters and I believe by talking with colleagues at work or friends that haven't been to a meeting we need to select the right meeting to get them along. I can say this works as I changed employment and built relationships at work and we all talk about our weekends and this sparked interest and they came along and didn't know about WP and what it was about and they are now punters that now turn up to regular season meetings and we are going to do some roadies this year. Anything is possible and yes it will take some time and money and maybe vehicles need to be put on show with videos on big screens maybe in some Westfield malls to promote WP and what's on offer with discounted vouchers given out??.

That's an excellent question there 888hsv, I think that is a question best asked to ALL the speedways tho, not JUST Waikaraka, and the responses would be interesting. Hooncorp. True but with AKL having the biggest population what is WP doing to attract the punters - (spectators and drivers) we need to grow this sport so that it rivals P-North their are a lot of visiting drivers turning up to theirs events!!! it would be great to see some of the top drivers turning up to WP on a regular basis!!. I know part of the reason is peoples budgets and how many events they can do locally etc etc but if we could get ( new ) and increased spectators at meetings surely that would help with better travel money and prize money??. 888HSV

I like the idea of the 5 clubs having a mini series, its a bit like the super saloons Yes we could call it the Top Half series or similar and my gut feeling is it could have wheels across some of the classes ie Stock cars, Superstocks, Modifieds, Saloons and if possible Super Saloons given that it may be in conflict with the DHL series.

Waikaraka park is getting much better. In my opinion as I and most people are not at all interested in six shooters or minisprints. We avoid these meetings. They do not belong at the park. Either the springs or Waiuku would be more suitable. The park would be much better off having less meetings working with other tracks to ensure the meetings they do have have did not include beginner/ entry level races. All Waikara races should be of high quality suitable for the biggest city in the country. Note even though mini stocks could be considered entry level or program fillers it is the future of the sport although they should have their first race before the official start time. Another important issue is start time is 7.00 not 7.20 or 7.25 or 7.30 or 7.40 the first proper race should have the green flag drop at this time with no exceptions. Yes I agree meetings should start on time unless weather has played its part. I don't mind watching Six Shooters or Mini sprints as long as there are good fields of cars ( at least 10 cars ) anything less then its not a spectacle. We still need the entry level mini stocks etc as these guys and girls will be the racers over the next couple of decades and if we want to watching the sport we love then we have to accept and support such classes.

Cant wait for the season to start and looking at the race calendar's of some of the other tracks I wonder what is WP going to do this year too .....
a) Get more race fans to the meetings b) Get bigger fields of cars c) Are they going to put to together some series for some or all classes so that the contracted drivers and visiting drivers want to be apart of these thru out the season or does WP, Huntly, Kihikihi, Bay Park and Rotorua work together in a 5 round series where there are no conflicts in calendar's and would the drivers from these tracks be interested in competing in it?. d) Work with WS and bring the TQ's, Midgets and Sprint cars to WP so that the WS drivers can have a few more meets in Auckland?.
Interested in your thoughts and idea's and hopefully they will get back to the right people to make it happen if possible???

Reading thru all the posts we really have no clear answers to the pending rule change on straight lining.. I'm not a racer however I follow stocks n superstocks around the NI and have seen a number injuries to drivers but the percentage isn't high from straight lining. There are so many variences that play a part when an injury happens thru speed, contact made by 2 cars the angles of contact, physics and the concrete walls at the different tracks..... I have seen cars hit the walls hard and drive away from that and others where the contact doesnt appear to heavy and people are knocked out or have a broken a leg etc... Fans watch these 2 classes because of the contact and for the drivers who go out and race. From a health n safety as spect we all have to take all practical and reasonable steps in a perfect world and the roll cages and safety gear worn by the drivers needs to be the very best!!!!! Is this the case?. Have we looked into the loads / impacts of hitting another car on our human bodies and look at what stage does this start having an impact on our racers...... does the long term affects not show for sometime ie racing for ten years and on this occasion the driver goes into the wall and serious injuries happen..... slowing the cars down will potentially reduce the physics side of the impacts..... however technology will over write changes in rules associated in reducing speed..... if you are the driver sending a racer to the wall at speed what is the reason....... teams racing I have watched hits not at speed achieve the desired result of damaging the car so that it takesthem out of the running and evening in championship meetings.... this rule change will not stop injuries happening....drivers and officals need to come to changes that dont take the spectical away.......

Why is it so hard to get 9 teams up for this event, given the same promoter???.Is it simply the distance and time away from work??... After being at Palmie and watching the best teams racing for sometime with upsets a plenty...... this was a mouth watering event with revenge for 3 of the top teams having a off night/s and the possibly changing of the guard ..... I was so looking forward to seeing if the under dogs doing it again showing they are lifting their game.... Its a pity the warriors aren't coming and sadden by the cantab's as well....

Reading thru this thread why don't the WS guys go to the WP guys who prepare the track for advice as they seem to get it right quite often?. My hat goes off to track prep people due to the number of variations they deal with leading up to race day and race day it self.... I have stopped going to WS as I only find the features enjoyable because a full field of cars are racing... I can recall when the midgets and Sprint cars raced at WP at the end of last season and the comments coming from the drivers was it was the best track they had driven on in some time. There lap times were very fast and with lots of drive and 2 lines to race side by side..... I would love to see TQ's, Midgets and Sprint cars at WP more often!!!. Question what are the reasons currently that stop this from happening??....
